LSU’s pursuit of Herman.

Excellent read for those interested.

Obviously Herman’s agent was trying to work us into a bidding war with Texas.

Also interesting to me that Leach was interested in the job. I think that would have been an outstanding fit.

That wouldve been way too much work for our last bozo of an AD.

Orgeron is doing very well right now but that “search” was a travesty.

Completely agree. It’s lazy to have 1 top guy then immediately hire the interim guy as soon as it doesn’t work out.

Leach deserves a shot with a traditional power. I hope he gets it

Pretty much every reason we assumed our coaching search was a joke, confirmed in one nice little article. How pleasant. Even got a pomansky shout out

So true. It was an embarrassment to this university.

I was pissed when I thought we were getting jimbo or Tom but instead settled for coach O. After what we know now I am happy we got him after seeing the way Tom has acted out a few times in the past and we could of hired some bad fits here as head coach. Coach O is not perfect but he is real with you and I like what he has brought to the program so far. The best thing I read in this article was joe alleva moved to Florida with his wife to be closer to his kids and grandkids. What started out to be a house fire in my eyes in the beginning has done a complete 180 with how everything is going with getting joe burrow, joe Brady, firing joe alleva, and getting Scott Woodward.

Holgorsen was an early front-runner?

quote:

There was Stanford coach David Shaw, who made it known early that he was not interested. There was Texas Tech’s Kliff Kingsbury, but some were concerned how his defense and Air Raid scheme would fit into the SEC. There were at least two candidates in particular who expressed their interest in the position: North Carolina’s Larry Fedora and Washington State’s Mike Leach. Alleva spoke to Colorado’s Mike MacIntyre, as the two worked together at Duke, but things were never too serious. Among them all, Justin Fuente, in his first season at Virginia Tech, was maybe the most alluring candidate for decision-makers, but his buyout was enormous.

Some feel Dana Holgorsen had the inside track on the job early on in the process, but there were off-the-field concerns with the then-Mountaineers coach. Alleva says he was never serious about Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy, and Utah’s Kyle Whittingham, while intriguing to decision-makers, could have presented a cultural fit problem in south Louisiana. “I often asked myself, ‘Is he better than Coach O?’” Alleva says of these candidates. “My answer was ‘No.’” Alleva wasn’t the only one who felt that way. Stanley Jacobs, a former LSU basketball player who was then on the LSU Board of Supervisors but not on the search committee, agrees with Alleva, a man he’s heavily criticized over the years. “If it came to the full board, I had already made up my mind,” Jacobs says. “If it was not Orgeron, I was going to be vocally opposed.”

Was just discussing this article.

I was very much against this hire. Hated it.
But the more I thought about why I hated the hire the more I came to terms with it.
The article reaffirms my thoughts about Alleva. But interesting thing- this starts to seem more and more like destiny even if we arrived here though incompetence.

The Brady hire appears to be a great one. Aranda is STILL here, which always concerned me. This ongoing recruiting class is stellar.

Maybe we bumbled and stumbled into something that was just meant to be...I still have my issues with the “he’s one of us” members of the LSU fanbase that consistently display their hypocritical double standards; HOWEVER-

If Orgeron can go 11-1 with this talented team, then he has shown we can get to the next level under his leadership.
If this is another 10-2, 9-3 year with this much talent then we continue to be where we have been in recent years and nothing has really changed other than many will be happy because of WHO is doing it.

Winning with this kinda talent and taking a step forward is imperative in determining if this was the right hire ; but I’m more open to it now than I have been.

The rest of this season will tell the tale because of not this year, when?

You can blame Trent Johnson for those thoughts. Of course months later Alleva would fire Johnny Jones and say that fit didn't matter.

Orgeron has done a nice job at building the program. He's recruited well and his coaching hires have been good.

He seems to have learned a lot from his previous head coaches.

Things seem to be going alright for us now but that all confirms what a cluster frick the coaching search was. They latched on to Herman, didn't bother to interview anybody else and then strung O along as the backup plan.

Just the fact that they didn't even bother to interview a variety of candidates to get a feel for different coaches vision for LSU football is an absolutely egregious mistake. Good riddance Joe Alleva.

Ehh while I’m happy with what O has done, his hires haven’t been great. Jury is still out on Cregg, and he has basically hired 3 different O-Coordinators in 3 years. We will see if the 3rd one works out.
