frick that redshirt

That's stupid. If Nuss was your son, you would feel the same way.

You don't burn a whole year of eligibility for a meaningless bowl game.

If he doesn't get the waiver. Play a backup for 60 minutes and go home.

He would have 4 years to play 3 if he doesn't use the RS this year. Not sure why you're faceplaming my post.

If he redshirts this year, he has 4 years to play 4. If he doesn’t redshirt, he has 4 years to play 3. That’s why the other poster was facepalming. Because it’s pretty simple math.

He doesn’t gain anything by “saving” the redshirt.

I think it’s ridiculous to resort to a walk on or WR at QB just to avoid burning a redshirt, don’t get me wrong. But there’s no “advantage” to Nuss holding onto his redshirt at this point, other than whatever comes out of playing in this particular bowl game (and not being the guy that bails on the team when they need him).

Nuss will play and if necessary burn his redshirt. Why else would he be taking reps if there is a chance he would not play. They are just taking a shot at the waiver. They lose nothing by trying to get waiver.

Without the threat of a passing game just about any team can stop you by stacking the box. Put whomever can throw short passes in and lets do it.

If Walker Howard comes in and starts for 3 years and heads to NFL, Nussmeier would need a 5th year redshirt season to compete for starting spot in 4 years.

Meh. If Walker comes in and starts right away and plays 3 years, when he leaves there will be someone else on the depth chart ready to go if Nuss isn’t here.

I still think this is a golden opportunity for Nuss to get all the first team reps in practice and and entire game with no real threat of being benched. He can take this opportunity and show BK and the next OC that he’s the man or he can sit and pray he’s good enough to beat out Howard or whatever transfer comes in.

Unless he’s already decided to hit the portal, he’s a fool to pass this chance up. And if he does pass on it and doesn’t transfer, The new coaching staff will remember it and not in a good way.

If things don't work out, I would like to see O'Dowd get his 1st start. What are his stats. Would be great to watch all the Chicken Littles eating Crow.

Half these clowns posting don’t understand the situation and only think whatever is best for LSU. As a player you want to play and get the most out of your eligibility. Burning a entire year on one game against freaking Kansas State is just flat out dumb especially when the game means absolutely nothing. Would love to see him play but it is not the smart decision if you lose a entire year of eligibility over it.

Nussmeier needs to step up and play. Period. Are you a team guy or a me guy? You could be a 3 year starter and impress your new coach.

If he's the dude you hope he is, it would be dumb to give up an entire year of eligibility for a meaningless bowl game

If he is that dude, he won’t be here 4 years anyway, much less 5. Play, show you deserve to go into spring ball as the clear #1, start as a sophomore and junior then of good enough go the the NFL.

Makes no sense. Nuss was ready to burn the redshirt only 2 games ago but now doesn’t want to play a whole bowl game with both other qbs in the portal.

What you guys are forgetting is that Nuss and\or his father thought he was ready then, and saw it as an opportunity. He played well but it was also very clear that he wasn't as ready as they thought.

That is why he doesn't see this as so much an opportunity to shine, but to risk his chance to develop into something better.

If I’m Kelly and the school tries unsuccessfully to get a waiver, and Nuss still refuses to play, I tell him to transfer now

There are some really bad tales on this whole thing based on—hell, I don’t know what. What I do know/or at least think:

1) Nuss signed with LSU after 2 dudes 1 year ahead of him—that didn’t even count making them all 3 have the same amount of eligibility left—wound up slitting starts most of the season. He also signed knowing Walker Howard was committed the year behind him. That doesn’t sound like somebody afraid of competition or who has “one foot out the door.”

2) As soon as Max put himself in the portal, Nuss was starting the bowl game. He probably talked to his dad, Davis, and Kelly, but he absolutely wants to play. And I think he will.

3) Why in the world, if a loophole that could potentially benefit both Nuss AND LSU, not at least attempt to be exploited,

4) No matter what the ruling, Nuss will play.

5) The ONLY reason he might not play is if Kelly tells him he doesn’t think it will be in either Nuss’s or LSU’s best interest to to eliminate that option of an extra year.

6) I don’t think Kelly will do that. He wants to see up close what kind of a gamer Nuss may actually be. Can tell a lot more about a football player in how they handle a real game than practice. And Nuss looks like a no-fear gunslinger. Kelly may want to see how he may be best able to reign that in. And it can help immensely with figuring out which QB he should go after in the portal. It just the type of player that may better fit his scheme, but the age. If he thinks one of Nuss or Howard should be ready to go in the ‘23 season, it’d make sense to get a stop-gap experienced guy with 1 year left. If he thinks either may be able to play next season, getting a guy with 3 years of eligibility might not be the best use of roster management.

Why did he insist on playing against Arkansas? That obviously pissed off Max snd now has created quite the cluster f for the bowl

Because he saw Max lose the bama game for us and thought he could could grab the starting job. Unfortunately he didn’t play well enough to do that.

Above all else, this. The idea that any of this is being done without Kelly’s approval is ridiculous.

what's your response if it is BK making the determination not to burn Nuss's redshirt for this bowl game?
