1) Nuss and family refuse to play without losing RS - tells you they are definitely trying to be in the best possible position for a future transfer if needed
This is the only thing that makes sense as to why he and his family want to keep the redshirted

The dumb fiasco with playing Nuss for the Arkansas game is why we're here. Still kind of dumbfounded that it go to that point.
Anyway, as far as Nuss goes, can you really blame him for not wanting to burn the RS now that we've gotten all the way to the end of the season with it still in play? You can make whatever assumption you want about him "having one foot out the door" but is this bowl game and this season worth wasting a year of eligibility on? You never know if/when you'll need it. Imagine being at the end of his 4th year and still needing another year to improve draft stock or get more experience, but not being able to come back all because he burned it for the 2021 Season's Texas Bowl vs. Kansas St for a 6-6 team.
Then if you're BK, we're worried about next year's roster and going forward. This bowl game is largely inconsequential to any goals we have for the future, Nuss can still practice and show his stuff in the spring. You don't run off yet another QB by issuing an ultimatum to play, that's an easy way to get yet another QB to say deuces.

Why not try and get the waiver? everyone bitches about Bama and all the loopholes they find.
Anything can happen in 3-4 years so this is the right approach.
if it doesn't work, then move forward.

Why is the redshirt so important? I feel like they are not telling us everything
Without a redshirt, Burrow is gone after the 2018 season as an undrafted free agent.
The redshirt doesn't matter until it does. Perfect scenario he burns the shirt, starts here for 2-3 years, and is off to the nfl. Things don't always work out that way though.

So this should tell us all we need to know about myles right? Surely the guy is healed by now

They just had to let him play instead of Max. Blew up in their face. Thanks O.
ETA: in a perfect world, he won't need the redshirt, but what if he gets injured in his last season and has played too much to get a medical redshirt? He would want another year.

Maybe Nuss and his family want it. We really can't afford to piss him off at the moment
I disagree. Kelly is instituting a culture change. If a QB refuses to play just to keep a redshirt, especially when the 2 QBs ahead of him have already left then that QB isn’t the leader we need to change the culture.
If I’m Kelly and the school tries unsuccessfully to get a waiver, and Nuss still refuses to play, I tell him to transfer now.

it's a meaningless bowl game, you can't blame Nuss for wanting to preserve a year of playing time if he can. If I'm the coach, I want him to preserve it as well. I wouldn't want anyone burning a redshirt in a non-playoff bowl.

He still has potential to be a 3 year starter. Seems the bowl would be a perfect opportunity to show the new coaches what you can do.
And if he really is good, he’s leave for the NFL after his Jr year anyway.
To me it seems he’s wasting a golden opportunity to take control of the QB room.

OR... and hear me out... the kid doesn't want to limit his options over an exhibition game. There is a real chance that Walker Howard or a transfer walk in and take the starting QB job which would mean that Nuss has to find somewhere else to show case his skills. I completely understand the kid wanting to make sure he has as many seasons to actually play as he can to try to make it to the NFL.

Basically Nuss is telling everyone the first game you don’t start me I will be in the portal Sunday morning. He has a chance to show out in a bowl game without looking over his shoulder. If he plays well imagine how big of an edge that will be going into the QB competition. Hell, if BK pulls a half way decent QB out of the portal Nuss might transfer. SMH

nuss is getting bad advice. take the reins and the opportunity given to you to play and show what you can do.

Yea very weird since his pops threw a fit over him it getting in the bama game and now it’s redshirt him.

Or he could also be saying that if Howard is the truth and beats me out, he will likely only start for 3 years and go pro so I want to make sure I have a year of eligibility left so I can pull a Matt Flynn.
I know that scenario is less likely than him preserving the year of eligibility to transfer but its still a possibility.

Any chance that Nuss will play either way? Maybe they are just saying this as they try to get a waiver and even if it gets denied he'll still play.

He also has the opportunity to show the coaches that they don’t need a transfer or a true freshman.
If Nuss doesn’t think he can beat out Walker, a true freshman (who hasn’t even officially signed yet) with injury history, then why hasn’t he entered the portal already.

Does a redshirt really matter anymore with the Transfer portal? The odds of LSU holding onto Nuss his whole Collegiate career seems pretty slim.
This really can't be that hard to understand.
It matters to him & LSU is going to do what's in the players best interest.
That's like asking "does Myles Brennan's redshirt even matter since he's going in the transfer portal". Yes, his redshirt is HUGE for him, not so much for LSU.

This. He must be worried about needing that one year somewhere else.......

Yes
He was more likely to transfer than Max Johnson, IMO
Looks like an LSU problem, but his decision will likely say more about his future anywhere
Will be interesting
