Dave Aranda quote on defensive plan against Bama last year

quote:
"It will be interesting to see with the coordinator change and how much, if anything, changes," Aranda said of Alabama's offense. "Last year, I think some of the success with Alabama came in the multiplicity in everything they did. I think every defensive coach across the nation will have a hit chart, he'll have a formation and have the plays that come out of that formation. And we do that, too, and we put it up in our board room back at LSU -- and we could not fit all of the Alabama formations and plays in our room, so that it extended outside of our room. So we had a Board 1 and then we had a Board 2. And so no other team was like that.
"I think there is an element like that in this league. There's creative people, and I think there's weekly game plans. Auburn has a style that adapts that way. With Alabama, I think there's a copycat philosophy that they had with coach Kiffin, where if he would find a play that hurt you, you would see that. So when you're looking at all the plays that Alabama presented, you had to decipher what plays are their core plays, what plays were just for Mississippi State, what plays were just for Kentucky. See what I mean? And the only way you do that is to go back and look at Kentucky and what plays were they hurt by -- what plays did Kiffin see and is creating just for them. Thank goodness you had the two weeks to prepare. That was a big part of playing. Does that continue? Is it different now? Is it more establish the run?"

We should just go ahead and build a laboratory for him

Sounds like we need a bigger board

Please never let him leave

He could probably teach a PhD curriculum in Defense and it would be legit.

Accidentally downvoted but this is awesome

To say Aranda is thorough and doesn't cut corners on his preparation would be an understatement.

Pair him up with Charlie Strong....

I really hope we don't risk holding on to O too long if he struggles and let Aranda pass us by. This guy just knows football.
I was listening to Ruffin Rodrique talk on 104.5 yesterday and he said listening to Ensminger on the tiger tour, that Ens said Aranda was one of the main people he would go to, to help put in an offensive gameplan when Steve took over at OC last year. Just said Aranda's knowledge of defenses and what offenses to run against those is remarkable.

Well he is the associate head coach. He might be next depending on if Coach O doesn't work out.

This guy is an absolute genius

pair him up with a good qb and dynamic OC and you've got an instant contender.

Not one idea? Like how he has never been a head coach? The mound of head coaching failures is filled with brilliant coordinators.

I'm convinced he's the best pure football coach in the country. I think he's got a good chance at the Broyles Award this year.

You have no idea because you don't know anything about football.

Think the fact that he hasn't been a head coach is due to him not having that desire at this stage. Everything I had heard was that his long term goal is NFL, and at this point maybe he doesn't see a head coach opportunity that meets his goals.
Which I love - don't want to lose him, going to be horrible when we do.
