Data on this umpire

Per Doug Thompson on the radio:
His opinion: LSU has 7 strikes called on them outside the strike zone - NC has zero called on them outside the strike zone
From Trackman: This is the same ump that called Fridays game with Wofford where he was 92% accurate with LSU pitching, and 82% accurate with Wofford pitching.
Thanks to Choup for passing this along to me.

that's in Doug's opinion, he doesn't have any type of info.
he said in first inning when I was driving that he was going to start counting them.

I’m in no way defending the umpire, but I wonder how the radio guys are getting this information so fast.

So it’s not Trackman data? Dont these guys have access to that?

I think they may have access to trackman or some similar technology at NC in the radio booth that would show the strike zone they made it sound like it on the radio yesterday

This guy has a huge zone both ways.

I think it is trackman data. They referenced having access to it on the broadcast yesterday.

He seems to be consistently calling low strikes. That's all you want, I think, is consistency. If the batter has no idea what a strike is according to the ump, well that's a problem.

I remember last year I believe teams weren’t allowed to use trackman data in postseason play. I have no clue if that’s still the case or not. But even if they are using it, I thought they data radio/broadcast were getting is the hitting data like exit velo, distance. I’m not sure if they get k zone data in real time.

If this is true this dude needs a criminal investigation performed on his finances.

I don't know if he has access, but in the first inning he said (paraphrasing) "that looked outside, I'm going to start counting these"
so he made it sound as if it was his opinion it was outside and not trackman info.

This ump is calling backyard ball
Posted on 6/3/24 at 6:58 pm to ShoeBang
The ump has been pretty consistent with both teams

I love the traditional part of the game but I do not understand why balls and strikes aren’t called by a computer at this point. The technology is there.

He’s missed more for us, but he’s missed planning for North Carolina too
