You’re conflating the 2016 Bama game and the 2017 Bama game.

Possibly I just remember several times a LSU wr had gotten behind the coverage on the sideline and Etling was just inches too long on a throw that would have for sure been a big gain and probably a TD.

Guys, an LSU team that got drummed by Ms State 37-0 and hammered by Troy wasn’t beating a Saban national title Bama team.

In the '17 game, Etling missed probably 4 Chark TDs

You’re probably right about me mixing up the years. But I promise that one of those Chark misses was a perfect throw that Chark messed up.

True, but somehow we did beat SEC West champion Auburn

Danny is from Terre Haute Indiana.

Midwestern stoicism is a real thing. Polite, quiet, kinda bland.

But humble and will bleed freely from the face.

I can guarantee that dude grew up working on a farm.

Harris deep ball to Quinn in the Texas Bowl was a pretty throw. The talent was there.

The day before the Bama game in 2016, I ran into Danny and his Dad at the Co-Op bookstore or whatever it was called (right there in same complex as Walk Ons and the burrito place).

I was wearing a generic #7 LSU jersey. He and his Dad couldn’t have been any nicer, and his dad took a pic of Danny and I on my phone.

It’s too bad that between our stone ages offense, and the REC refs gifting Jalen Hurts a non-holding penalty (one of many never called against bama in that game and time period) on a critical 3rd down when they were driving late in the 4th quarter when things had been tight all game up until that point to give bama the win. Sucks because GameDay was there and Death Valley was rocking at the kind of levels it does in those big games and situations.

He’s still playing in UFL, saw him when I was flipping through channels a while back. Same Danny, tough, encouraging teammates, no doubt solid guy who loves game of football.

You mean Danny DualThreatling. Put some respect on that man’s name.

Speaking of Brennan, I seem to remember him coming in to relieve an ineffective Etling in earlier games that season, vs Syracuse and Troy.

You’re almost right. Etling got hurt against Troy. Came back in late to try to win. We were beating Syracuse and Orgeron pulled him. Brennan proceeded to play poorly. Etling came back in again to win the game.

Man I among many others was fired up for 2017 with Matt Canada and Etling. Boy was that a dud

o lines in 2017 and 2018 had horrible ratings. they were bad for etling and burrow.

In 2017, our offensive line was 113th in the country, with a sack rate of 9.03% In 2018, our offensive line is 92nd in the country with a sack rate of 7.72%

etling had major flaws but canada did great working around them. how did he get that great completion% in 2017? short throws just like JD5 his first year here

albeit JD5 finally got comfy with intermediate then won the heisman the next year.

Etling to Chark at Auburn should have counted.

Just a reminder:

But the refs reversed the call because of this:

The roster was stacked when he played in 2016-2017. He was good but just had his limitations

Why was the play allowed to proceed if Etling didn't get it off in time? It seems like the officials would have halted play immediately if it was an illegal play.

Anyway it all worked out for the better. And the rest of 2016 was fine, except for the unforgivable loss at home to Florida.

Brennan proceeded to play poorly

He didn't play poorly, other than his last ill-advised pass which was picked off.

Brennan was in the game for three drives in the third and fourth quarters of the Syracuse game. First drive he was flawless leading the Tigers to a long TD drive to make the score 28-10 following Darrell Williams' 20 yd scamper. Brennan was 2/2 for 49 yards.

Second drive, -1 yards for a safety (Guice) after Syracuse punted inside the LSU 1.

Third drive, Brennan was 2/4 for 29 yards; drive ended with the INT at about the Syracuse 25.

So Brennan was 4/6 for 78 yards and an INT. Not terrible for a 17-year-old making his first start ever for the P&G.

I know it has become fashionable to badmouth Myles Brennan (by many) on this board, but he had both extraordinary talent as well as extraordinary bad luck, the unluckiest thing being Joe Burrow's transfer to LSU in 2018.

If you asked me what that guy in front whose head/neck is shaped like a thumb with a faded white hat and purple LSU polo, what I think his wife would look like, it'd be exactly the big lady he has to the right of him. I've never seen someone's head and neck shaped exactly like a thumb as much as this guy. There is no transition from the neck to jaw line to head, it all just morphs into one hahaha.
