My buddy and I are seriously considering going to the CWS should LSU make it, but I'm having second thoughts after looking at flights. He wants to drive 19 hours to save money, but I'm like hell no! The plan is for us to meet up with some relatives and possibly get an Airbnb, but unless I can find a much cheaper flight, I'm staying home and will watch it for free.

I don't fly much so is there a way to find cheaper flights? I'm willing to drive a couple of hours to New Orleans or some place in that vicinity, but I'm not going to pay $800-1000 for a ticket!

My wife and I were just looking at AirBnBs for the Saturday. At least it's just a 6 hour drive for us.

Drive. Get the full experience. Went with 2 guys in 2009. Barely knew one of the guys and the other I knew well but not that well. Just needed some guys to split the costs with. Great time.

Flying to Kansas City can be a lot cheaper because it’s a big airport and they aren’t jacking rates based on CWS demand

The question is always what is cheaper to work and fly or to miss work and drive. At least for me that is.

Now if you can work while driving, then you're golden!

Working in Cedar Rapids right now with my son flying up next Thursday. We’re driving over on Friday. I just booked a room at the Holiday Inn Express Airport one mile from the stadium for Friday night and Saturday night using points. Those are cancelable. Once we beat Kentucky and confirm we’re in I’ll probably call and pay for Sunday night as well. Held off on cash for now because that’s not cancelable. The expense is not limited to the flight. Some of the hotel rooms I looked at were expensive as shite.

Dude, make the road trip with your buddy. Those are the best kinds of trips.

When the Omaha airport is priced out of sight, I have flown into Des Moine, Iowa, rented a car and then driven to Omaha. Flights usually cost about half the price compared to flying into OMA. It's about a 2 hour drive.

If you're going with a group, splitting the cost of the rental car makes it cost effective. Plus you have wheels while in Omaha and you can drive yourselves to Barrett's Barleycorn which is several miles away from downtown where the stadium and most of the better hotels are.

You don't have to mess around with Uber or taxis, which are in very high demand during the CWS.

Have you checked flights to Des Moines or are they jacked up too?

8 hour drive for me and my 2 teenage boys. Going for a full week. Been waiting for them to get a little older so they will appreciate it more. Staying in Omaha West about a 20-25 minutes from the stadium to keep the cost down. frick the money. It's about creating memories with family and friends.

I found out last week that Allegiant runs Houston to De Moines on thurs/sun for a little over $100 round trip.

De moines is right at 2hrs drive from Omaha.

There are also cheap flights baton rouge/nola to houston if you're not in that area.

May not be ideal, but it's an option.
