Dandy's interview with Mike Detillier on LSU offense

"The "X" factor is Derrius Guice. He's a bigger, stronger and faster version of Terrance Magee. Great change of pace runner, and even with Fournette you have to find a way to get him his touches. Throw in Nick Brossette and there is not another halfback group in the nation as good as what LSU has."
"I think it is a two-quarterback offense. Both quarterbacks will play, and I think the competition continues into the season. No one guy has hurdled ahead of the other."

I hope that is true about Guice
Magee had a knack for getting tough yards and knowing where the chains were last year. Also seemed to understand what was needed in pass blocking. I really liked his play.

For Brandon Harris to win the job outright, he will have to do it on the field. Les feels comfortable with Anthony Jennings because right now he is more comfortable in the scheme and will not take chances out on the field. It is part of Harris' DNA to be a gunslinger. He is going to take risks and Les Miles doesn't care for that part of his game. Les wants his QBs to be caretakers and not be the focal point of an offense. He wants the running backs to be the featured players. With Odell Beckham and Jarvis Landry on the team, he featured Jeremy Hill, Kenny Hilliard and Terrence Magee. And he had Zach Mettenberger playing quarterback.
Last year it was all about Jennings knowing the plays. He got everyone set right and ran what Miles wanted. Harris is more comfortable with the scheme now, but that is still a big advantage to Jennings. What that tells me is that the offense will stay, for the most part, the same. It is not Cam Cameron's offense. Les wants certain features in it, and part of that is a power rushing attack. That part I say keep 100%, but you also have to play to the strengths of your quarterbacks in the passing game. To me, that is still a major question. I believe Jennings is the guy for Miles right now, and Harris will have to beat him out in the fall on the field.
So if Jennings is struggling like last season and we need some life in the offense, is Les going to take the stick out of his arse and let Harris pull a Favre?

Get ready for more Jennings ladies and gents

I wouldn't mind if he could show he could be somewhat productive. Flynn and Mauck weren't all world passers but they could get the ball to our playmakers. With our RB's, that's all we need.
At least that's how Les feels. He's unwilling to open it up.

Both need to be ready regardless, injuries happen all the time. They just need to both continue to work and improve. Both of these guys can be good college QB's.

Is there evidence to support the notion that Mike Detillier is any more informed than the average rant poster?

This quote right here sums up why Miles has had so much trouble at the QB spot. Stop trying to fit square pegs in round holes!
It's mindboggling that LSU has so much talent at WR and even TE, yet there is very little emphasis to put those guys in positions to make plays other than the few deep balls attempted each game.
For instance, what more does Diarse have to show? In the few times they allowed him to (most notably vs. Wisc and ND) the guy made catches on intermediate routes and turned them in to big plays with his ability to run after the catch. EVERY OTHER TEAM IN THE COUNTRY would find a way to get the ball in the hands of a player like that several times a game except LSU.
Simms wasn't a great QB at Alabama, but to his credit, Kiffin found a way to play to the kid's strength and Saban was willing to let the offense evolve in to something other than what he generally likes to run. How can Les and co. not do the same thing?
The only thing holding LSU back is LSU

no. I just essentially mentioned that in the other thread ("way too early"). though I think he's got ties to Orgeron, so hey, maybe he'll start giving us some scoop soon.

Biggest thing with Guice is staying healthy and doing what Miles wants him to do on certain plays. If Guice wants to be a third down option and catch passes out of the backfield in that role he will have to learn to block and that's what it will take for him to get on field. He will be #3 on depth chart due to Fournette and Williams being the only RB

Yes he is giving you his opinion, which is extremely well respect in the football circles. On top of that he is actually a fan of LSU and truly wants to see us succeed.

What I read was LSU will not win another national championship as long as Les continues to run this type of offense. But even if you had to run this BS offense and you want your QB's to be caretakers, why do we remove the easiest things a QB can do like screens, dumpoffs, TE passes, etc. Why do we avoid throwing to the 6-5 WR's that are being covered by 5-10 DB's? Why do we run a basic running attack?

Jennings- no mention of his poor pocket presence or our inability to call routes over the middle because half of his passes sail on him.
Can you imagine what an advantage that is for a defense never to have to play with inside leverage on any receivers? FML
