I expected more from Damone tbh. I’m concerned we don’t have that thumper. Against physical olines and backs I’m afraid we may get gashed. Run D must improve. Our MLB should never just have one tackle. Tney got gashed early but stopped stunting so much and shut it down. Cox has good speed and solid awareness and will play on Sundays but Imo at the next level he’s a nickel and dime backer. We’ve heard white is a stud. Has Baskerville played ? Should someone else get a shot? Anyone w knowledge have any insight?

THIS!

Damone seemed to be out of position on almost every run last night. IMHO, it looked most of the time like he either bit on every fake or over-pursued by a ton. Either way, he always seemed to be in a different area code from the point of attack....

Jacoby is our thumper. We certainly don’t have one in our LB group. 18 has been a non factor on defense. He doesn’t seem to have a great motor, misses his gap assignments, is easily blocked and is rarely in in tackles. Jabril Cox has been good.

That was certainly noticed. Its one postion that you expect to make tackles especially from upperclassman like clark and baskerville. They were both out of postion alot. Dont think better teams wont be noticing this. With stigley back i'm not that worried about the secondary but we got no body coming back to replace clark or baskerville. They need to step it up big time because we only got one more game before the meat of the schedule hits.

He looked a little slow as well. He’s got a lot on his plate. So hopefully he puts it together mentally and the position becomes more natural for him. He needs to be more aggressive. He’s tentative. Almost playing like a deep S who wants to be safe as the last line of defense. He hesitates. I want to see him attack more. Like Rohan on W&W postgame. Some that are new starters tske some time. And I remember Kendall Beckwith taking a little longer than we wanted. By UF we need him playing like the qb of the D. Be a leader and attack. His words hit or be hit. So time
To step up

Is josh white healthy? I know he’s young but some have said he’s a stud.

The rush defense is gonna kill the pass. Non-QB backs averaged 4.5 yards per carry to Vandy whose backs were certainly nowhere near the size or speed of some they will face like Harris. This defense is poor at backer. Speed to the point of attack and gap assignment is dramatically different from the previous seasons. It could be the dline play will improve enough to make a difference in the run game. When you don’t have the beef pushing the opponents Olinemen into the backfield AND assisting in the run game, it creates a big concern with what we have seen thus far. As others have pointed out the lack o gap assignment and speed to the point of the attack has been disappointing overall.

What I’m really concerned about is coverage on wheel routes by the RBs and TE releases. They are terrible. Those have to be improved or someone like Mullins will abuse them.

I think cox coverage skill will be pretty good he seems to move well but clark and baskerville seem slow . Marcel brooks transferring will be the big hit. he was so fast and explosive.

Yes it does. I think this team is going to get into a lot of shootouts this year though. Hopefully we can make enough stops/big plays to win

At times, it looked like DJ Welter had number 18 issued to him and showed up for one last game.

Seems to be playing from behind and out of position a lot the first 2 games. Several long runs up the middle tonight where he was in the picture but over-pursued the play. Has the fix that and fill a gap if anything.

Not only is he out of position all the time, he looks very slow to me.

Our whole defense looks slow also. Something I haven’t seen at LSU in a long time.

One thing I don’t worry about with Coach O is he knows what’s going on and you better believe Pelini is hearing it about our run defense. I believe if Clark or Baskerville can’t get it done you will begin to see the younger guys getting more playing time and real soon. Clark with 1 solo tackle is just terrible.

I did not see much of the game last night, so I really can’t say. But I’ve seen enough of Damone Clark to know he is an excellent LB. Maybe he was nicked or feeling under the weather, but you can rest easy that Damone is a stud.

I noticed last night is that Gaye is just a stud not only rushing the passer but keeps containment and doesn’t get fooled by the play action stuff. Some of our linebackers got fooled last night and if Gaye doesn’t stay home then it’s a huge gain. Gaye is just a beast and the speed at that size is just amazing.

Last week it seemed like he was always looking for someone else to make the tackle, this week, he might as well have been invisible. And Baskerville looks lost as a goose. Thank the Lord we landed Cox, or the LB’s as a group would be complete doggie doo doo. We might miss Aranda here even more than as DC, look around in Sunday to see what good position coaches in college can do for players deemed average otherwise.
