I like 2025
Posted on 7/2/25 at 6:27 pm to Keltic Tiger
I ran it through chatgpt just to see what it'd say. Here's the result:
Let’s start with the **8 LSU Baseball National Championship teams**:
### ?? LSU Baseball National Titles:
1. **1991**
2. **1993**
3. **1996**
4. **1997**
5. **2000**
6. **2009**
7. **2023**
8. **2025** *(latest title)*
---
Now let’s break down a hypothetical **bracket battle**—single elimination, seeded loosely by historical dominance and MLB talent.
### ?? Tournament Seeding:
1. **2023** (Most talent-rich, beat Florida 18–4 in Game 3)
2. **2000** (Walk-off kings, legendary hitting lineup)
3. **1997** (Set HR record at the time, brutal power)
4. **2009** (Gritty, balanced, great pitching & defense)
5. **1996** (Warren Morris walk-off, clutch team)
6. **2025** (Newest champs, still TBD on how dominant in hindsight)
7. **1993** (Solid but overshadowed by later 90s teams)
8. **1991** (Trailblazers, but not as deep as later rosters)
---
### ?? Bracket:
#### Quarterfinals:
* **(1) 2023 vs (8) 1991**
Blowout. Dylan Crews, Paul Skenes, and Tommy White are too much.
**Winner: 2023**
* **(4) 2009 vs (5) 1996**
Tough matchup. But 2009 had stronger arms (Ranaudo, Coleman) and better depth.
**Winner: 2009**
* **(3) 1997 vs (6) 2025**
2025 team is fresh but unproven in comparison to the home run-happy ’97 squad.
**Winner: 1997**
* **(2) 2000 vs (7) 1993**
2000 team walks it off if needed. Better offense and big-game mentality.
**Winner: 2000**
---
#### Semifinals:
* **2023 vs 2009**
Great pitching duel, but 2023 has Skenes/Crews/White and the better offense.
**Winner: 2023**
* **1997 vs 2000**
Fireworks galore. Both teams could hit bombs at will.
Edge goes to 2000 for having clutch DNA and late-inning magic.
**Winner: 2000**
---
#### Championship:
* **2023 vs 2000**
This is *the* dream final.
* 2000: Brad Cresse, Wally Pontiff, and the walk-off bats.
* 2023: Paul Skenes on the mound, Dylan Crews in the outfield, and Tommy Tanks hitting bombs.
?? **Winner: 2023**
> **Why?**
> 2023 had the best blend of dominant pitching, elite offense, and MLB-ready talent. They crushed a very good Florida team in the CWS final and had arguably the greatest 1-2 punch (Crews/Skenes) in LSU history.
---
### ?? Final Ranking of All-Time LSU Champs (if they played today):
1. **2023**
2. **2000**
3. **1997**
4. **2009**
5. **1996**
6. **2025**
7. **1993**
8. **1991**

Nobody is.
If it’s 2-3, different story!

There were MLB pitchers on that 91 team that could freaking shove. Don’t dismiss 91 pitching.
Pitching and defense gives me the best options to win games when everything else fails.
Paul Skenes barely had a change in Omaha. He wasn’t the pitcher he is today. That sweeper sprinkler or whatever he calls it was developed in pro ball.
I watched Crews and White cave on high FB and balls at their feet. You could get to that 2023 team with great pitching.
The reason while the shift was so bad in 2023 was the pitchers couldn’t command like these guys did in 2025.
Anderson would absolutely crush those lefties from 2023. Floyd would be hit or miss depending on the day and if a coach called a TO to talk it over with his hitter. He was a head case.
With that said, I think each team has a weakness and each team has the strength. Those teams in 96 and 97 did not know how to lose. The 2000 had arguably the best duo of the middle of any team plus some really good pictchers and a lot of power. give me Skip versus Johnson and I’ll take the 2000 team with Ainsworth and Co and that balance.

Your experiment is shite. Chad Ojeh was shove the frick out of that 2023 team. You’re talking about a guy to pitch several seasons in a major league. fricking want one or two games in the World Series. Against people that were known cheaters with steroids and everything else. I love how you fricker steak that that team didn’t have any major leagues on it. The greatest pitching staff in the history of LSU baseball was 1989 and it’s not even close. Go look at how many guys made it to the majors.

The 2025 team would absolutely destroy every other team besides 2023. Anyone who thinks those 1990s teams could hit 95 to 100 mph is on drugs. The talent level in college baseball has been going up for years, and it’s way higher today than it was even 10 years ago.

Not all of the increase in pitching speed is real. Some of it is more sensitive radar guns that pick up the speed of the ball right out of the pitcher's hand, instead of a few milliseconds later after the air has slowed it down a few mph.
But, in general, it's true that NIL has meant that better players are making it to campus, and the college game is much better now overall than it was in the 90s.

Very true. They had future big league pitchers Paul Byrd, Chad Ogea, Mike Sirotka, Rick Greene, and 8th Round pick Mark LaRosa. That’s a lot of future MLB pitching to dismiss so easily.

What MLB guys am I missing?
Tallet
Hawpe
Theriot
Fontenot
Am I misremembering Hodges with the Braves?
If not 5 big leaguers on one team is impressive. I think 2023 will match or surpass over time.

The scores to their 4 games were 8-1, 15-3, 19-8, and 6-3.
Plus they had several pitchers who pitched in the majors. 2 of them for several years. One in particular went 2-0 in the World Series for Cleveland.

97 team was retarded good
The 97 team lost a regional game and was a base hit by Long Beach st away from being eliminated at home in the regional. Luckily Coogan bailed us out.

The pitching in 23 went into ludicrous speed in the CWS.
Posted on 7/2/25 at 9:19 pm to Keltic Tiger
1993 with Todd Walker would not be denied.

The 1997 team is the best. Offense was great but people forget the pitching was great too.
Patrick Coogan had 14 wins and Doug Thompson had 12. Thompson had 158K’s and Coogan had 144.
Chris Demouy was a quality reliever.
They won 57 games and 22-7 in the SEC.
The SEC was great that year. 4 SEC west teams finished in top 6.

Not sure why the down votes. Fun question to me.

They won the other 5 games in that regional by a combined score of 71-18.

2009 had a crazy amount of MLB talent
The pitching doesn't quite match '23 or '25, but they had a good 1-2 punch as well. Some of those hitters with better balls amd better bats could do some damage, too.
