Criticism aside, how does Orgeron motivate this team?

How do you fire them up? I think motivation is 50% of the problem on defense.

I wonder if his message has gotten stale. I hope not but the defense is playing with no passion

I think it’s time to do the underdog thing. They’ve left us for dead. It’s us vs them. Etc

He needs to get his players to play with pride for LSU, the defending champs, and for themselves and their own future. Some of these players must not care about the LSU brand if they’re tackling the way they are right now. Bama lays the wood on defense while we bend over

Motivation is a tricky thing. It can’t only come from the coaches. Player leaders are critical.

Also, motivating them to play hard is only half the battle (at most). While we have seen some instances where players (particularly on defense) have appeared uninterested, the issues seem to mostly be due to players not knowing what to do. That part doesn’t come on game day - it comes during and after practice.

Failure is its own motivation.

If that doesn't work, there's straight up shame. That's why players pushing back on social media isn't a bad thing. Means they are hearing it, and it bothers them.

Then there's the losses. You've got a QB making his first few starts throwing for over 300 yds and multiple TDs a game and you are losing because of... look in the mirror.

If that doesn't work, you can always bench a MF'er or two. If just for a first qtr. The people will change, or the people will be changed.

But most importantly of all, the coaches need to recognize this is a communication + instructional problem. They do not know how to execute in the system/scheme.

Before you start motivating players to do better, you better be sure they know what to do first.

I don’t think his message has gotten stale. I think he got lazy in the offseason and wasn’t preaching the same message.

For those sunshine posters advocating the promotion of “pride”, what do you do when everybody can see you cashed in on all the pride, got a big paycheck, and checked out.
Makes “pride” hard to sell, if you are being honest about it...

Show them how one season can impact a players draft stock. Hate to use him as an example because I love em, but grant delpit went from top 5 pick to second round because of questions about tackling ability. Right now, every player on defense is suspect when it comes to tackling. Guys draft stocks are plummeting.

I think this might be the trick, tell O needs to call some of his NFL friends, Pete Carroll and Seattle scouts, Saints front office and get current draft grades for the draft eligible guys now vs. where they were coming off the NC game vs. Clemson.

I bet there stock is falling like my batting average once I left Little league and got to what was Pony league back then and guys started throwing more curve balls (I think there was a limit of like 3 curve balls per inning or something like that but hell that was 40 years ago.

I think Marshall is a 1st rounder and he is playing like it, kudos to him and his character and effort. Ed Ingram is playing hard and I think his grade has not dropped, but the rest of them I would think whatever their grades were back in the summer, all have dropped.

That might be the only motivation tool left to get them focused on turning this season around.
