And Javonte Smart is the only person named Smart? Are you sure?
I'm not saying it's enough to incriminate Wade and I'll have his back through it all. That said, nobody can read through all the stuff that came out today and not know he's referring to Javonte Smart. Hopefully it'll just be some bad PR for a little while and LSU and Wade can move on together.

Those quotes that came out today talk about Javonte Smart. Since he ended up at LSU that is a bit more troublesome for Wade and LSU. Much different than before.
Unless there's more audio that's not too vague to not have multiple possible valid meanings and interpretations, it's not that troublesome.
The offer is clearly a scholarship offer. At LSU for that matter. Do any LSU fans/alums disagree that an offer to play basketball at LSU is a damn good offer?
That to me IS a damn good offer.
I would have LOVED to have been offered to play scholarship basketball at LSU. One of my high school teammates played at LSU and one of my favorite LSU sports monents of all time was when he actually played and scored in a real game.
The recruiting pitch was geared too heavily towards convincing his mother and family that their son/brother/cousin/nephew/grandson would be in good hands with Wade and LSU. He probably promised to personally ensure that he behaves and goes to class, if I had to guess.
Javonte wanted guaranteed playing time. Wade eventually conceded this, a decision I think we all agree has turned out for the best for all parties.
That is what he meant with the 'not getting a big enough slice of the pie' remarks.
It's obvious if you think about it. Money to pay recruits isn't an issue. If the guy's good enough he'll get paid. Everyone knows that. The coaches don't facilitate this shite, and to think they do is naive. That's not to say they are never involved at all but they're not the ones dealing with middlemen. It's not even worth discussing. If a program sells a guy that they want on committing the money will be there. The fricking coaches aren't haggling over money.
Playing time on the other hand is a finite thing. There are only 200 minutes to go around. Hence the pie chart reference. Each player's PT is his "slice of the pie."
We have good guys redshirting kind of inexplicably for having an 8 man rotation. Perhaps this is because Wade had to promise however much PT to Javonte and Edwards (at one point arguably our best outside threat) was expected to play. Maybe with Naz and Tremont leaving they promised those two guys major minutes next year if they agreed to redshirt. They'll get their "slice" next year.
All of these are perfectly reasonable explanations for the audio that has been released.
Can anyone prove that the above isn't true?
I'm not even a lawyer and my guess that the people who are would do better than that.
If anything happens (like an NCAA investigation) nothing still may come of it unless there's another call with specifics.
I'm just saying that nobody knows for a fact that what I said above isn't true. What I said is not unreasonable and for all any of us know could be the truth.
I understand the melting. I just don't see any need for it at this point. I've seen nothing so far that would merit any kind of punishment.
I'm doubting there's anything "worse" yet to come because one of those hacks would have released it by now in a bid to be first.
Relax people. It's going to be okay.

I think it will be okay as well. You never explained Wade saying that Smart would be making more than the league minimum though.

I’m sure they’re as shocked as we are

"League minimun" means redshirt or at best being a rotational role player who might be the second option off the bench.
It meant he was a high enough recruit to justify promising him meaningful playing time.
Obviously I don't know any more than anyone else. I'm just saying no one can prove that it isn't accurate.
Let's see what if anything else comes out. Wade has obviously not been distracted by any of this. 25-5, 15-2, 18 of last 20 speaks to that.
I suspect that if he knew he had done wrong and been caught, that it would have been near impossible to have had a season like this in which superior coaching has been a difference in nearly every game.

He joked about a “rookie minimum” (not mentioning league or nba) which could mean absolutely anything. Certainly we are not paying a fricking recruit $800,000+

A college education is probably more than the league minimum in a developmental league.

how does anyone know it wasn’t something else like playing time, or a number of other things??
It says the deal is geared towards the family and the mother. Does she have a good 3 point shot? Does she have eligibility?
We can debate whether or not this will eventually land LSU in NCAA jail. But those quotes in the article reference money or assets of some kind. To suggest otherwise is to be willfully ignorant.

Still, have to prove it and it's on THEM to prove it. Remember in the movie A Few Good Men there was a line that said: "It's not what you believe is true it's what you can prove". If they want to believe it was $ offered let them but they need to prove it.

You never comment on a legal matter. That's the lawyer's job. It's hard to fathom how stupid some of our fans are.

Say wha?
Perception is reality and the perception is bad. The NCAA will be on this like stink on shite as soon as the judicial system finishes its process.
LSU probably isn't commenting because they don't have all the facts to determine how to respond. Their silence would indicate to me that they are concerned.

It could mean that the family was hesitant to let Javonte come to LSU because, given LSU's recent track record in basketball before Will Wade, Javonte's talent could have been squandered and there would be no assurances of an NBA career.
It could have meant they wanted him to go to a school like Duke or UK, where one-and-done is just about automatic for most of their top recruits, and Will Wade was a relative unknown at the time of Smart's recruitment. Just a thought.

They don’t know what else is on the tapes. You don’t come out guns blazing in support of him if you don’t know the whole story. The media is reporting it. Nobody else has said anything. The media said Miles was going to Michigan too. You don’t comment on every single thought a guy with a journalism degree says.
