A very close family member of Cranford's told me that we should have expected a transfer, he also noted that LSU is able to garner huge NIL deals allowing them to quote "buy" whomever they want in college baseball and thinks the big amounts being offered players is bad for college sports. I'm not saying he's wrong on this bidding war currently in college sports, which LSU baseball seems to be on top of and winning. But being a huge LSU football fan myself, I do wish LSU football can reach similar heights.

Perhaps him entering the portal should have tipped us off, but thanks for confirming?

1. He's been in the portal for a few weeks, we know this.
2. Costs way less to "buy" a baseball team than a football team.

I should have posted more clearly, "this transfer was expected." My bad. Still confused as to how LSU's new baseball coach could appear so far ahead of LSU's new football coach in accumulating huge NIL deals for top players and transfers.

Two or three significant donors could influence a baseball roster but it will take 15-20 at least to impact a football roster.

You dont understand that the money needed for nil deal for baseball is a fraction of what would be needed for football? And therefore easier to put together?

Breaking news...Cranford is in the portal because he is not wanted and being replaced by Baylor's All-B12 shortstop

I am sure he is a great kid but as a baseball player, he is not a SEC talent

If NIL somehow helps us keep recruits that we would otherwise lose to the draft then this team will be insanely good for the next 3-4 years.

I agree that it is bad for college sports. However, Cranford wouldn't have had a spot on this team even if we were operating as we did a few years ago.

It’ll help several teams, but it will make college baseball pretty awesome to watch.

The big money guys that helped turn LSU baseball into a juggernaut in the 90s plus a few others are now seeing that money can influence baseball again and they want to see another dynasty. The new college baseball landscape is the perfect atmosphere for the old formula that built LSU baseball.

Translation: it's bad for his son/nephew/cousin, whoever Cranford is to him, because it caused Cranford to get processed. Better believe that if Cranford was going into a program and had NIL bidders fighting over him that opinion would change.

Sorry Cranford. Thanks for trying at LSU, but the big dogs are coming in.

I keep seeing this but it’s simply not true. He had a .886 fielding percentage this year

I'm not saying Johnson will not win 2-3-4 national titles while he's at LSU, but I don't think it's realistic to expect a 90's type run. There are more teams just in the SEC alone today that are legit title contenders than there were total titles contenders in all of college baseball in the 90s.

Oh I’m not saying 5 national championships is for sure gonna happen, I’m just saying it seems to be what the baseball boosters are gunning for now that their money can surpass forced parity from the NCAA again

Seems like they could have bought a better shortstop!
