Pitching hasn't been quite as good as we hoped

Wait what? you said it was good as advertised. You are what they call a flip flopper. A kool aid drinker.

When pitching against Omaha and North Alabama you said it was good as advertised but now our 2 starting pitchers cant get out the 4th inning against the worst team in SEC and now they are not as good as we hoped. You are what we call a kool aid drinker. You just proved my point that you are the Average Joe Fan.

When you get on my level about baseball knowledge and sports come talk to me until then go sit on the porch with the puppy dogs you flip flopper.

No changes will be made just yet.

The Texas series will tell us alot.

He seems to want to waste a lot of pitches after getting 2 strikes.

I've noticed this as well, and our waste pitches have been so far outside that strike zone that they're not going to draw many swings

No doubt. She is the defending SEC bars champion.

what does it matter if he pitches the first 4 or the last 4?

Within a given game and for the most part, it wouldn't.

One could make the case that a starter will face the heart of lineup more than a reliever necessarily would. There's also a fatigue factor, i.e., a pitcher's stuff would more effective against a tired lineup in the latter innings. Finally, there might be some matchups and lineup dynamics in play depending on how an opponent manages their players.

But baseball is played in these groovy, discrete nine inning increments. And all nine innings are not created equal to where a HC might want reserve a good arm to plug in when most needed.

I had this thought this weekend. I also thought too that Eyansons stuff may be most electric when he’s on. I think holding out is the best move but it’s nice having it as an option.

I dont think either the Sat or Sun starter went 4 1/3. The middle reliever role is huge right now.

Due to his pitching style, he is the perfect candidate for middle relief for two guys throwing 95+. Cowan was good at Wofford as a starter but the SEC competition isn’t Wofford competition. That’s no criticism of Cowan because I believe he is an excellent pitcher and has a lot of similarities in his pitching ability to Greg Maddux but I believe he just fits better into that long middle relief role for this team.

Why do people want to make everyone a starter? Having a stud reliever is a very valuable asset.

But what if that middle reliever contributed to not one but 2 SEC wins?

Needs to stay where he is right now. He is easily going to play that Hurd roll that we desperately need with college bullpens.

I would go another month before I would even consider making any changes. The home series against Alabama would be a good spot to make changes if they need to be made.

It's no secret that Anderson, Evans, and Cowan have been the best 3 arms so far. Anderson is pretty entrenched as the #1. I don't see Evans coming out of the closer role. The 2nd and 3rd starter roles are definitely up in the air though between Eyanson, Shores, Schmidt, Cowan, Guidry, Ware, etc. I think you continue to hope the more dynamic arms figure it out but Cowan certainly seems like someone you could depend on greatly if you get to a point where the others haven't proven themselves to a level that instills confidence.

I don’t think you’ll see it. I think he’ll be in a Griffin Herring role.

You saying Greg Maddux couldn’t be a starter vs SEC competition?

Depending on the situation, wasting pitches or nibbling when ahead in the count with two strikes is a smart thing to do, especially in this league.

It only becomes dumb when you can’t trust the control of the pitcher and walks happen. Somebody with the pitch ability of Cowan who lacks power stiff should absolutely be trusted in this case.

Moreover, it should be a strategy deployed. Guy has a rubber arm anyway. Wasting a pitch here and there won’t hurt him, and why would you give up an advantage of being ahead in the count to a good hitter by catching too much of the plate when you can try to get them to chase?

Eyanson currently has a whip of 1.05 with an xFIP of 3.55. A guy with 40 k’s in 27.2 innings. Yeah, lets bench that guy

Yea I agree, I'm not a professional pitching coach but I don't like the way Yeskie calls a game at all. I'm not saying I'm right about it but I'm of the opinion that we waste too many pitches.
