Could not firing House be career suicide for CBK?

I love CBK and think he's done an amazing job and considering LSU is on the verge of back-to-back 10-win seasons is impressive any way you look at it.

With that being said, however, CBK has to seriously address the elephant in the room - a pathetic LSU defense that currently ranks 101 out of 130 schools. The reality is we're not in the CFP currently because we have a defense that is so porous, it makes Niagara Falls look like a slow dripping faucet.

Is anybody hearing anything? I don't understand how the entire defensive staff is still intact at this point. It's one thing if the defense was steadily improving, but that hasn't happened in two years!

Somebody please tell me there is some type of movement going on behind the scenes because I don't know if I can handle another season of watching opposing offenses easily convert 3rd and 15 with barely a finger touching them.

As a veteran coach, I'm sure CBK knows all of Tiger Nation is watching and waiting!

If I'm correct the early signing period is in 6 days, it would be foolish to fired your DC before then...

Not sure this analogy is accurate…

More like we have a defense that is so porous, it makes a slow dripping faucet look like Niagara Falls

I mean Polian wasn't reassigned until after the bowl game.

Why does everyone think a change should have already happened?

When you are on your last job before retirement, and in Year Two of a 10-year contract paying you about $10 million a year, there is no career suicide unless you break the law.

This!!!

The only concern that BK has is not getting fired for cause. Be prepared for 9-3 seasons until LSU can afford his buyout.

Maybe, just maybe, he’ll make a decision based on his experience and assessment of the situation, and not just a knee jerk response to people that have no real knowledge.

He’s got 100 million reason not to care if it’s career suicide and will do what he wants…

Can someone explain to me how waiting is better?

That feels like a much worse look for some reason.

"Hey, we got rid of the coach that was here when you signed but wanted to wait till after the ink was dry so you couldn't back out."

Feel like I must be looking at this wrong so if someone could help clarify.

Too close to signing day now. Should have been done weeks ago.

We may have had DBs not wanting to play for this staff or at least we could have gone out to assemble a staff that can land day one starting talent.

Everyone doesn't, just the midwits, which seem to be in abundance.

Haha his career is almost over and he has a 10 year contract

He does what he wants.

He only has to stay away from co Ed’s and not steal.

Where were all you House Derangement Syndrome clowns last year? And if anything is hurting recruiting players to LSU it's the no nothing negative haters of House. Why would any kid want to come play for a "fanbase" like this?

The fact that BK and Frank were the only ones with McKinley speaks volumes !

Nothing is career suicide if the risk you take pays off. Last year tRant wanted Denbrok fired and House retained. If the 2023 House defense had played like the 2022 House defense, LSU may be going to an NY6 bowl or even a playoff game.

I do think either LSU gets a new DC, a Co-DC with House, a near-complete overhaul of the defensive staff below the DC, or some combination of those.

Add to that Matt Canada was retained through the bowl game in 2017...even though everyone knew he was going to be fired. Just because BK hasn't held a grand press conference letting the fans know what is going on with HIS program doesn't mean he's not considering a move.

As to the OP, no, retaining House is not "career suicide". It would be a dumb decision a la Dinardo retaining Tepper after Tepper tanked what should have been a really good 1998 season. But unlike Dinardo, Kelly has a massive contract to consider. And Woodward is not firing Kelly after just 3 seasons...regardless of the results next year.

Could it be that the state of the defense is as much the fault of the head coach as it is def coordinator? And Kelly realizes that.

-Kelly hired all the assistants as House was committed to the NFL.
-Recruiting for defensive players has been mediocre. That is the head coach and recruiting coordinators issue.
-A bunch of big misses in the portal last year.
-Trying to make Harold Perkins as "complete" linebacker sounds like a head coach plan.

The above, plus injuries and the loss of the DL coach was devastating to a defense.

Do you not see what's happening at A&M right now? If they waited until after early signing day I bet there wouldn't be a mass exodus.

Do you want to potentially lose recruits right before signing day? Do you want a defense-only version of the 2021 Texas Bowl, with a bunch of analysts running practices and coaching the team?

The need for instant gratification here is ridiculous.
