Could it be Joe Sloan was an above avg OC who was shackled by Brian Kelly?

I mean, he’s killing it in Lexington.

I think stein is the Brains. When asked why Kentucky would be better at SEC media days he said it’s “because of me.”

He also has a very good QB.

I’m gonna guess it’s more Will Stein who’s behind the offense… the same guy who was Oregon’s OC for the last few yrs. But BK does suck, so who knows

Nobody ever blames the players….maybe LSU didn’t have quality players that could execute his system….

Sloan is a QB coach.
Stein is the playcaller. Not a bad combo at all imo

I think it is a combination of Sloan is a decent OC but was shackled by Kelly, and Stein is an offensive minded coach that has what is starting to look like a really good QB.

Stein implemented his scheme and brought in players to fit the scheme. Sloan has been calling plays but certainly Stein has serious input.
2019 LSU was Joe Brady’s scheme but Ensminger still called some plays. Watching Kentucky, that’s definitely not the LSU offense from last year and the OL is pretty good too.

Could be. It could also be that the has just improved now that he got some experience under his belt.

Stein designs the game plans. It’s pretty obvious that he really understands how to indemnify weaknesses in personnel , matchup, and scheme. He knows how to attack those. He then hands off the play calling to Sloan , who has done a solid job of executing. If you watched the TAM game , they did a great job of attacking the small corners with quick screens to split out TEs. When the same two safeties , they attacked with the outside zone run or play action post routes and post corners to Darby. They ran the TE screen twice in a row on two separate times. Caused those safeties to widen out even more. Then hit inside runs and the post. They are a nice pair and Stein has “coached up” Sloan.

Kelly had good offenses for decades before sloan. I think sloan sucks as an OC if left to run an offense by himself. But if he gets helped by a brilliant mind, like most OCs, then he can look good

I remember a time when 17 was about 3.5 years of Bama games for us lol. Grateful that isnt the case any longer.

KY’s third down conversion rate is God awful. LSU’s third down conversion rate last year was awful. What did those teams share in common?

A. Stein's offense and Stein >>>>>>>>>> Sloan.
B. It's still not that great, albeit is year 1. It would be A LOT worse though if it was Sloan's. They have talent, but no depth and I have to think Sloan is calling 3rd down because they fricking suck at it like we did last year.
Kentucky Rushing YPP - 5.17 (35th nationally)
Kentucky Passing YPA - 8.0 (52nd nationally)
Kentucky 3rd Down Conversion % - 24.5% (dead last, 138th nationally)
Kentucky Offense TFL Allowed Per Game - 4.4 (43rd nationally)

And who is responsible for identifying needs, evaluating these players and going To get them?

I would think any Quarterback that make the cut and make the roster of any NFL team would be a very good QB
average career for a QB that makes opening day roster is 6 years in the NFL
LSU QB last two seasons made the NFL roster on a recent super bowl winner 3 of the last 7 seasons
