His emergence at this time bodes well for the pitching staff going into Omaha. Will be exciting to see his development as he moves forward. Get Shores dealing too and this pitching staff will be difficult to beat.

I agree. I suddenly feel way more confident in our pitching staff than just a week ago. Eyanson, Anderson, Evans, Cooper, Shores... holy shite, we're fricking stacked right now.

It was meaningful to see Jay, in a 6-4 game with a man on, go to Cooper Williams over Cowan. That tells us something.

That tells you that he doesn't trust Cowan too much right now

…At least relative to Williams.

I think he will do the same in a leverage spot at the CWS.

He was one of the few that faired well in that Sunday debacle vs Little Rock. He throws strikes.

I like the fact that pitching is a premium in Omaha. I think pitchers have more confidence pitching in that ballpark especially compared to the Box.

If Willams continues to show that he can take multiple innings, it makes sense to flip-flop him and Cowan. Move Cowan to a role just facing a situational batter or two in his next appearance. That helped get Shores back on track. Maybe a clearly defined role with less stress placed on him will help Cowan, as well.

Wrong. Williams was brought in for match up and then didnt give Jay a reason to pull him. With close game he had to save Cowan for potential game on Monday.

More like Cooper gained Jay's trust vs Cowan losing his.

Lol bro we not saving Cowan for any day. He's not pitching well and Jay trusts Williams more right now than Cowan. Match up or not Williams is coming in before Cowan from here on out.

It's amazing how many years so many of the guys on this board absolutely panic about halfway through SEC play and never understand that you want to peak right now.

How many dudes gave up on Shores after a few bad outings?

Now all of a sudden he's got his confidence back and we have a horse coming out of the pen pumping 101

You could tell by his face he did not want to come out of the game. He was dealing.

Semantics, but an elevated relief role doesn’t necessarily mean Williams will come in earlier than others. For instance, he’s obviously passed up Primeaux, but Premeaux pitched to a batter in a situational role Saturday.

Cowan could still pitch earlier in a game, but at this point, it would likely be to one or two batters as a bridge to the next guy. And others like Rizy, Primeaux or Mayer could be called on ahead of Cowan.

Williams is likely going to be in an expanded role as a reliever in a critical spot. It just doesn’t always mean he will be first out of the pen.

think it had to do more with a lefty batter coming up and another in the hole...in other words whomever came in was going to see 2 left handed batters there, hence the lefty Williams being called.

I said the same thing to a friend when he came in. He has a small sampling but when he's pitched he's pretty much been on. I think Jay won't hesitate to bring him in if needed regardless of the situation.

That WVU's line up was stacked with left-handers?
