I thought Reid played Center...? I admittedly dont know a great deal about the x's and o's of basketball.

Very few teams actually have a true center these days. They may call them a center but most play like forwards.

Naz getting meaningful PT and meaningful years in the league? Not in his lifetime.

JOB was an effort player and got a look for 3-4 years. Naz will get about the same.... maybe.

Zero handles and zero footwork. Very Questionable motor. That body will get him a look but his shooting? Who cares. Lots of bigs can fog these days but bring much more to the table.

Let me break the news: Naz won’t make an impact in the league.
I wish he played at this level a couple more years and helped the Tigers though.

Not really, Naz is a better defender than JOB was. He’s a better athlete, better foot speed and quickness plus if you go by stats Naz had more blocks and steals, more defensive win shares and a better defensive rating.

I loved JOB, dude was a workhorse

But if Naz stayed three years he'd blow JOB out the water.

Naz may not get drafted first round but some team will take him and wait to develop him for 3 years and he'll be good to go. Get him some yoga classes and some nba post training.

Reid will play in the league for a decade.

Well there you go

JOB was much better at banging the boards. Reid better find is physicality and find it fast or he will get eaten alive! The upside is there for sure and NBA will drool over that alone.

You can only compare JOB's Freshman season. If you do that, you see Reid had a much bigger season.

Reid - 13.6 ppg; 7.2 rpg; 1.0 apg; .7 bpg; 2.5 topg; 47% fg

JOB - 8.5 ppg; 6.7 rpg; 0.4 apg; .8 bpg; 2.4 topg; 40% fg

That said, you have to take a few things into account:

1. Johnson did not play at the same offensive pace that Wade does. Faster tempo = more shots = more points.

2. JOB wasn't asked to handle the offensive load in the post. Justin Hamilton did that. Reid, on the other hand, was LSU's primary inside scorer

JOB was a better post scorer. But Reid was never touted as a big time post player. He was essentially a BIG stretch 4. The issue (if you can call it that) with Reid is that while he was good at a lot of things, he wasn't really great at anything. He was a good 3 point shooter...but not great. He had moments where he looked good with his back to the basket...only to follow that up with moments of him clumsily flailing all over the place. He have stretches where he was engaged on defense. Then others where it looked like he didn't feel like defending at all (see Mich St. game).

Overall, he was better than Freshman JOB, but not as good as Junior JOB.

IMO, he didn't quite live up to the 5 star hype like Simmons did. But he was definitely a BIG reason why LSU had such a successful season.

Whether he came back to LSU or entered the draft he is going to have to improve tremendously to be a solid pro. He's just decided he wants to seek that improvement at the next level rather than LSU. Best of luck to him!

The guy has 2 posts since joining the Rant. Now that the seasons over these bandwagon guys really should go back to whatever it was they were doing before we were good. It’s great that they jumped on to support the team but when they pretend to know basketball it gets embarrassing.

Gotta disagree with your post about Naz not living up to his 5* rating. Naz was the 18th ranked recruit in the nation coming into this season yet he finished 12th in scoring and 7th in rebounding among freshman. So in reality he absolutely lived up to his ranking he even surpassed it. And he wasn’t even our primary offensive weapon, Waters was.

I'm not so sure that's the case (or definitively one way or other can make that statement), here's the advanced stats, side by side, Naz as a freshman, JOB III as a junior.

PER
JOB III - 18.7
Reid - 19.4

eFG%
JOB III - 49.5%
Reid - 50.7%

TS%
JOB III - 52.6%
Reid - 54.4%

ORB%
JOB III - 10.8%
Reid - 10.2%

DRB%
JOB III - 16.6%
Reid - 19.3%

AST%
JOB III - 11.5%
Reid - 6.4%

BLK%
JOB III - 2.9%
Reid - 2.8%

TOV%
JOB III - 17.8%
Reid - 16.6%

BPM
JOB III - 1.2
Reid - 2.7

It's pretty dang close. None of this takes in account schedule, which this past year was against more difficult opponents overall than 13-14 season. So think about that as well. If anything, this shows how special Reid really was as a freshman, putting him up against JOB III as a junior. The box plus minus is interesting, because neither is particularly good in that category, although Reid is over "twice as good", it's still only 2.7 pts better than league average player vs. 1.2 pts for JOB III. KBW had a BPM of 9.4 by comparison to both of those guys. Dude changed the game a lot when he was on the floor...

our fans are not used to having one and done players and they’re extremely butt hurt that Naz is leaving. That’s the only explanation for the ridiculous criticism and constant ignoring of data and facts when it comes to Naz. Last years number 4 overall pick in the NBA draft Jaren Jackson Jr. didn’t put up the numbers Naz did this season at LSU. Both are 6-10, 245lbs+ power forwards who stretch defenses with their 3point shooting.

Scoring
Jackson- 10.9ppg
Naz- 13.6ppg

Rebounding
Jackson- 5.8rpg
Naz- 7.2rpg

Shooting
Jackson- 51.3%FG, 39.6%3pt, 79.6%FT
Naz- 46.8%FG, 33.3%3pt, 72.7%FT

Now of course Naz isn’t a top 5 pick but to say he didn’t live up to his billing, he won’t be drafted or that he has no chance to make an impact or have a long productive NBA career is just plain ignorance or in your feelings because you’re butt hurt that he left.

No bandwagon here sir. Old man from Tigerbait days and lifelong hoops fan who simply lost the desire to be a keyboard warrior all the time. WW saga pulled me back in after a very long hiatus.

Nobody is saying he wont get drafted. People saying he'll be out the league in 6 years or less possibly not getting a whole lot of PT.

I'm an LSU fan, not an NBA fan. I really don't care how things translate for our guys at the best level because odds are I'll never watch or care.

I'm no pro athelete or anything but I'd much rather try to guard JOB III at LSU than Naz Reid last year.

The NBA draft is more about potential after top 10. Teams sit on players for a few years so he will probably get drafted late first.

Especially in this draft.

JOB is only 25 he has played in the NBA the previous five years albeit on a limited basis

he's playing in Israel this year, scored 32 points in a game in December and reportedly has earned about 3 million dollars in his professional basketball career

imo Naz is a better NBA prospect, he certainly runs the floor much better, he won't be double and triple teamed in the NBA and has better shooting ability than JOB at this time of his career

Naz's professional career will be lengthy, lucrative and at least moderately successful
