Both seem to under achieve despite being handed the keys to top of the line programs . Can we list the traits they share . Poor recruiting effort ? Expecting to win based of the letters LSU on the jersey and not willing to put in the overall work compared to other top coaches ? Discuss guys

You cannot deny that Kelly inherited a mess

He inherited a mess at both ND and LSU.
Can we check out of this thread now that it’s been shown the OP has no idea what he is talking about?

One coaches at LSU, and the other doesn't.

Sometimes I feel like they both overlook the basic concept that is college sports. If you out recruit other programs, you're going to have a high level of success.
PM began getting less and less big arm pitchers and less high level hitters. I mean, I liked Hilliard but you're limited in the SEC being a short, RHP throwing sub 90 mph.
CBK has a loaded recruiting class coming in, due in large part to the new assistants he brought in. But, where was that before? We signed no DTs in his first full year here and mostly 3 star corners. It begs the question, how hungry is he for a national championship? How relentless is he on the recruiting trail?

I think both inherited messes, Kelly a roster of 39 players and PM inherited a mess from Smoke Laval.
I think both coaches are similar in that they demand things a certain way from the players and that's a lot harder to do these days under this environment.
We haven't seen a competent defense under Kelly yet and PM was not known as a pitching guru so both are dependent on making quality hires in the areas they aren't known for.
You don't have the success at numerous spots that both coaches have had so their process works.
I do think LSU football can be a perennial playoff team under Kelly once they have a better defensive line.
PM biggest problem at the end was delegating recruiting as other sec coaches were taking advantage of in the SEC.

yea paul sucked his first couple years...idiot
and bk didnt inherit a top of the line program. he inherited a program that has less than 40 scholarship players, had back to back terrible recruiting classes(go look at how those classes panned out) and that was a mess with NIL and huge culture problems from the end of O's regime
he inherited a mess at ND too.
im sorry but we do not have the horses on defense
now he has gotten much better at recruiting and no doubt made some mistakes in hiring
but god damn, yall got to chill the F out unless yall are willing to send 100 a month for NIL. we have a salary cap, Texas and oregon do not. ole miss is raising more than us and has way way more people fund it. You might not like that, but it is what it is. Tenn is another outspending us big time.

They both came from ND.
I think Kelly can be a jerk at times, but realistically his three year window to a championship is more likely 5-6 years. Of course, some of that is his fault and mistakes, but I think that is what we are really looking at.
Maneiri quiet quit after 2017.

CPM didn't exactly inherit a stocked cupboard in '07. Not only did he win a natty in '09 he also was a national seed six straight years ('12 - '17) - matched only by Stanford.
I don't think CBK has ever achieved such high-level stability.

Wild that it’s been almost 20 years since ND’s Charlie Weis experiment

Both came from Notre Dame and are short. PM didn't kill anyone that we know of.

2 of the all time winningest coaches in their respective sports yet you call them under achievers?

I fail to see how they are even comparable. Which period of PM's era do you want to compare? I also don't understand why the board keeps bringing up PM and Les Miles as ways to present BK's flaws and shine both in a negative light. Both coaches are long gone and brought LSU wins, a natty, multiple appearances, professional players, national recognition, etc. Were their tenures perfect? No. BK has been here 3 years and has not gone through a career arc at LSU. Why compare him to a coach that did and shine that coach in a negative light. Give up your resentment to PM and Les Miles people!!! Those eras are over!

I can see it now... it's 2026/Year 5 and apologist will still be using this as an excuse to why LSU finished on the outside of the 12 team playoff.
