NFL kickers have bionic legs and can make 50 yd field goals fairly consistently.

Cole was great at LSU but he isn't a NFL kicker.

Max range of 53 yards plus a low trajectory ball and inability to kickoff means no job in the NFL. It still won’t change how he’s viewed by the LSU community as that of a god though.

NFL kicker is one of the toughest jobs to land on the planet. There are only 32 jobs, period. No backups, no practice squad, no scout team. You are either one of the 32 best, or you aren't.
While Tracy has an accurate leg, he lacks the strength to kick 50+ yarders, something NFL kickers do regularly. It's one thing to miss a 50-55 yard wide, it's another to routinely come up short.

No they won't. He doesn't have an NFL leg.

Want to make a bet on this one? I'll use the Bears as an example. They just went 0-3 in a single pre-season game. Cut one guy and are currently actively advertising and looking for a big leg and an accurate leg. Yes, like a lot of teams - they'll have two kickers on the roster.

I will bet you whatever you like that he is never on an active NFL roster.

ETA I hate these threads because it comes down to having to basically shite on a Tiger. He's not an NFL kicker. There's nothing wrong with that. He was great here and that's all that matters.

NFL is not in the business of employing kickers with limited range. He's money inside of 50 but that's the top end of his max distance.

Agreed, but there will always be two or three teams whose kickers wind up inaccurate in real games. They will cut them and pick up someone with a weaker leg but great accuracy. An accurate kicker whose top end range is 50 yards can piece together a decent NFL career that way.

Any explanations.

I’m sorry...it was my fault.

I forgot to turn in his official NFL papers, this causing him to miss some deadlines. That said, I’ve corrected everything, and we have another chance to get him in mid-year, so fingers crossed!

Can you name some guys that have done that? Preferably within the last decade.

Is Cole Tracy in the Top 32 of kickers in the US? No & that's why he's not on a roster.

No kicker’s top end range is 50 yards in the nfl.

Tracy’s isn’t either; it’s about 55 max. 52-53 is a strain. Still not really enough.

A guy like Matt Stover kicked 20 years and made two FGs that went over 52 yards. I don’t think Tracy makes it but I wouldn’t bet he is never on an active roster. Just takes 1 injury

Sure, and he started in 1991. The game and roster management have changed.

maybe you should look at when he retired & change the criteria you didn’t bother researching

Did the meaning of the word start change?

And he's been out of the league a decade.

This is the reason, more than anything else. The ball leaves Tracy’s boot at a very low angle. In the NFL, his field goals and extra points would be prone to getting swatted down by their physical freaks. It’s pretty tough to kick in the NFL without enough strength to put some real height on the ball from the get-go, regardless of makable distance.

Doesn’t kick off. Doesn’t have a long leg.
