re: Coach O on Pardon My Take tomorrow

The year Covid hit, I think he had already lost his hunger for everything after he won the championship. I felt like he finally exhaled and didn’t give it 100% to go along with his divorce. He had all the attention and girls on his mind. Covid hits and George Floyd happens and regardless of how you feel, he was out of touch with his team during that while everybody else was doing the march. Like I said of him losing that hunger after winning the championship, he got lazy with his hires and recruiting started to go down. He didn’t know how to handle NIL and he wasn’t good at handling pressure when it started to go down hill. I thank him for the best season ever in 2019, but Coach O will always be a short term fix when it comes to being a head coach.

He suffers from arrested development

It's hilarious that he wants to get back into coaching at the exact same time as his LSU money stops paying in 12/2025.

he stopped Recruiting and Hiring Good Coaches
This and the guys he did recruit were really really bad. If you go back and look at those 2020 and 2021 recruiting classes it’s actually insane to see where most of those guys ended up.

He wants to coach again. In other words he is out of money.
He lives in south Florida. $17 mil minus taxes and divorce isn't that much money in that part of the world. Furthermore, for all we know Coach O may have already been contacted by reps from other schools gauging his interest in future openings they may have.

You aren't looking at the guys on the hot seat across the country. Coach O is a major upgrade over any of those guys including Hugh Freeze.

Wrong.
I am a big fan of Coach O's.

You've seen those blondes......you didn't think that money was gonna last long did you?

Did Coach get remarried or is he still married? He's wearing a wedding ring.

He almost certainly wouldn’t be the coach now either way, but O’s not getting canned in October 2021 without Covid, if for no other reason than 2020 would have had Chase on the team, Marshall for the full season, and 3 extra non-con wins. O was uniquely unqualified to handle COVID, but it’s complete nonsense to suggest it didn’t have a massive hand in his demise. He would have gone out with a whimper 3-4 seasons down the line instead of a bang, most likely.
He’s certainly responsible for the state of Kelly’s first roster, but LSU being late to the party on NIL had a pretty big hand in it too. And for as terrible as his hires were, multiple of those coaches are on the staff now.

COVID, opt outs, no spring practice, and wait for it..........BLM
remember when players admitted quitting on pellini? It was in a SI article. but we saw it with our own 2 eyes anyway.
BLM was a huge issue everywhere, I don't think it was the main issue. But even bigger was the way he navigated it.
You’ll get no argument from me about the absurdity of BLM. I don’t think the player fallout was the only reason Coach O lost the team, but it was definitely a factor—I think a HUGE part of that was BLM and Trump, and one he should’ve seen coming a mile away.
He should've known 80–90% of every NCAA locker room was behind BLM and anti-Trump. So what does O do? Goes on TV saying “We love President Trump” and completely avoids the BLM issue during one of the most politically charged moments in recent history. Meanwhile, Saban holds a march. A lot of good ole boys mocked him for it... how'd it work out for him? I know he's a lib, but Saban was holding that march whether he believed in it or not. Saban's smart enough to read the room. Coach O wasn't. He had no clue.
It’s not about selling out; it’s about knowing when standing firm becomes self-sabotage. O failed that test.
Then came the off-field distractions, bad hires, and careless decisions. He lost focus. He lost the team. He lost everything Joe Burrow helped him build, including half his buyout money to a woman who never coached a down of football in her life.
I’ll always be grateful for 2019, but Coach O is a textbook case in how not to manage success.

Listened to most of the interview and Derek still works for O. Mentioned his name every 5 minutes. It’s wild how much influence that dude had on the program.

Again….it has nothing to do with his hunger. He had the exact same failures and problems at Ole Miss. Our talent level and a generational Heisman winning QB were able to mask his short comings.
Once he lost a good bit of talented players and coaches, it was on him to rebuild. It cratered almost immediately just like it did at Ole Miss because he’s not cut out for that aspect of the job.
No one notices or cares about banging strange or BLM shite had he continued to win.

Yeah i think Les proved that screwing coeds doesnt have to get in the way of winning
Yep. I ate many a barbecue plate at VooDoo bbq on Nicholson across from the natatorium while Les was in his condo directly above screwing coeds.
Hey, it worked out well for him. Of course he should have a condo close to the football facility with the hours he worked. But back in those days we were rationalizing “He’s not Saban bUt He’S sUcH a GoOd FaMiLy MaN!”

Both Les and O recruited very well except in their last few seasons left our O/D lines without much depth. The reason BK hasn’t really competed for championships is our lack of players on the line of scrimmage.BK and Nick are the coaches who emphasized numbers at those positions. Go look at the recruiting numbers during O and Les last recruiting years and the did not bring in the quantity of lineman needed to be a consistent challenger.
