I agree that these are the likely dividing lines, but I think O surviving with 4 loses will also depend on who the loses are to and how they look.

Here’s a scenario that’s actually possible (and perhaps a worst case for the program).
LSU wins next week, then pulls off a win in Starkvegas.
Now we’re 3-1 and have some momentum with Auburn coming to town. Gus is good for fielding Jekyll & Hyde kinda teams, so LSU pulls off a win at home.
4-1 now. They duke it out on the road with Kentucky and boom. 5-1.
Next three games against UF, Bama and Ole Miss show everyone we are who they thought we were and we hit a 3 game skid. But the strong start leaves just enough juice to pull off 2 of the last theee.
7-5 season. We’re still trash but O keeps his job most likely.
That’s what I’m afraid will happen.

I’d love to win 9 games this year, but not at the cost of retaining O. If somehow he’s retained, we are going to be in market for new coordinators which most likely won’t deliver a better result. Also, every other school will be recruiting against us with the “dead man walking” angle - which will be correct. I want to win every game, but I know in the long-run, 2-3 more wins this year isn’t worth having to retain O. I don’t want to lose any football games, but I don’t want O retained. Really ugly predicament we are in.
