Not bad. It’s a hard job.

Now look up how CWS coaches records are in general to CPM...... He owns Van Horn, Whoever MSSTs Coach is, Bianco, Who ever Auburn’s Coach is......they all made it there.

CWS Champions generally have a good record against everyone (they don't typically lose many games, period). Vandy lost 2 series all year, so that means only two coaches (A&M and UGA) had multiple wins against Vandy this year. However, we were 8-7 against CWS participants this year (3-1 Auburn, 3-2 State, 0-1 Vandy, 1-2 Arkansas). Not incredible but pretty damn good IMO. We just choked against FSU in both games, bottom line.

You think that's the measure of his coaching prowess?

Let's compare Mainieri to the current CWS champion.
Corbin started at Vandy in 2003. He has 2 CWS titles, 4 CWS appearances, 4 SEC titles and 2 SEC tourney titles.

Mainieri started at LSU in 2007. He has 1 CWS title, 5 CWS appearances, 4 SEC titles and 6 SEC tourney titles. (plus he had a CWS appearance at Notre Dame)

Does this include intersquad scrimmages as well?

Mainieri walked into a situation at LSU where championships are the standard and the university spent significantly more on baseball resources than any other school in the conference. He won one title a decade ago.

Corbin went to a school that had zero history of winning or spending money on men’s athletic programs. He has two titles in the last five years.

Now that the SEC Network money is leveling out the playing field, LSU’s program is no longer heads and shoulders above everyone else.

You people who downvote this are living in denial. You want to think that LSU is still the top program in the SEC, but the truth is, we have fallen to the middle of the pack and will continue to stay there as long at the current coaching staff(notice I said, STAFF) stays intact. The writing is on the wall, you just don't want to read it!

I actually think the ones that want CPM fired immediately are the ones in denial

This is correct

Do you think a new coach is going to come in & immediately meet the Rants expectations?

Do you not understand this isn’t the 90’s?

Yup. And how many of those have a CWS title?

There are some that don’t understand that college baseball has become a much more popular sport, partly due to the success of LSU baseball in the 90’s. With that, came a huge increase in the number of colleges willing to invest in baseball. At the same time, changes to scholarships in the 90’s, as well as roster limits has changed LSU’s ability to stack rosters. This leveled out the playing field quite a bit. There are some that refuse to accept that. We all want to win a title every other year. We all want to be in the CWS every year. We all want to host regionals and Super regionals every year. But that is much much more difficult in today’s NCAA baseball climate. We are still performing better than almost every other program over the last 10-15 years.

He took over from Smoke and the program was floundering. He had to rebuild the roster.

Smoke made 2 CWS then got screwed out of a regional by State’s hateful AD, so we fired him for missing the tournament.

Paul wouldn’t have stood a chance following Skip.

Well they are the champion. I wouldn’t expect anyone to have a great record against the top team from every year.

Missing the tournament was only a symptom not the cause of his firing.

Take time to read and you will see that I said, STAFF! CPM has shown he can win a championship, albeit that was 11 years ago, but if you think our offensive display at the plate this year was acceptable by today's standards, then we will have to agree to disagree! The consensus all year has been that we need someone to coach hitting and, yes, I know about the lack of a third paid assistant, but other teams are making it work, we don't have to reinvent the wheel.

that doesn't explain why pm's cws results are falling behind non sec teams over the last decade. Plus, lsu is still the premier sec program in all ways but cws wins over the last decade even if the gap has closed. The results aren't meeting the investment
