He also hired Meleveto, Steele, Chavis, Peveto twice and a string of great OCs after Jimbo got tired of his BS.

We had success with a lot of those guys.

Aranda is the most valuable coach on this staff by far, that's a given. The jury is still somewhat out for me with O but I will give him credit for recognizing the deficiencies on both lines and bolstering them. Also getting rid of a bad fit at OC. The transfers they have brought in have all paid dividends and in a huge way, especially tonight(Cole Tracy,Burrow,Fehoko,Giles and Alexander).Ensminger showed he can move the ball when the game is on the line with good playcalling and having faith in his players.
The moves he's made have paid dividends, so I will give him credit and I think this team can greatly exceed all the naysayers and nonbelievers (nationwide and within LSU circles).

You pay that school out the wazoo to take Oregeron instead!!!

...and promote Aranda to HC.

And for anyone who thinks otherwise, remember when Nick Saban wanted to come back to LSU but we said, sorry we already have a good HC that we like? You don't make the same mistake twice!

I’ve always hated the gridiron gladiator, “did you play” response to criticism, but it does seem to me that some of the reasons O succeeeds way more than his critics dream is possible is because of things you’d only be able to rationalize if you’ve played at a high level or been on a team where letting each other down isn’t acceptable. His team absofrickinglutely loves him and will run thru walls for him. You continuously see how they have his back. The jokes and the snickering about O piss THEM off. It can defintely develop a culture that breeds accountability and that leads to success with the talent LSU has.

I’ve doubted O plenty, but now think he may be building something special. Arranda is a huge part of it, but don’t think he’s the sole reason for it. LSU’s players could play lights out Defense w/o Arranda. They’re just that good.

ETA Think of Kelvin Shepherd giving Miles the game ball after beating Ala. The quote was something like “we’re sick of the shite they say about you”. We went on quite a run after that happened.

Yes, but they're signing with Alabama, Georgia and now aTm is creeping in. Need a wall...

I think this is generally understood. He's a player's coach. It's his appeal as a HC.

But the jokes and the snickering and them being pissed off about it, it's external motivation, which means it's probably not sustainable. These past couple of weeks have been perfect for motivation. They've been able to play the "us against the world" card both games.

But what happens when the jokes go away, everyone takes them seriously and the world begins to flatter their vanity? What gets their spark going at that point when they're expected to do well? Being a great team is as much about handling success as it is about bouncing back from failure. It's why Saban has a "process." External motivation is fleeting and not reliable for sustained success.

I think it’s a start and what it can lead to is a program with an identity and a reason to be accountable. I think Miles had it, but his stubborn style didn’t allow for it to flourish.

You’re right. The scenario you mention is possible, but in the end they’re highly motivated to win football games right now. How or why is what O’s paid to do. Maybe he’s good at it?

Until Aranda leaves and Orgeron proves he can replace him with his own successful hire, I won’t be convinced he is the long term answer this program needs. He inherited one of the brightest up and coming stars in the coaching ranks and this team is winning due primarily to him imo. I am thrilled with this win and how this team looks poised for great things this season, but the doubt for long term success will linger because Aranda is simply too good to stay here much longer. I hate it but that’s the truth.

If he does, I'll stand in celebration. Then what about when Aranda leaves? Will that one title mean he can never be questioned as HC again? Because Les Miles may take issue with that idea.
Ah, you're one of those fans... You could have saved a lot of typing and just said you will continue to hate O...

Here we go it only took 3 wins to start giving everyone else credit but O. If they would have lost O would have got all the blame. Let’s face it according to this board there‘s nothing he can do to prove to be a good head coach.

Bunch of slack jaw **** running around this place.

You don't think Aranda deserves the credit he's receiving? I certainly do.

He's the most valuable coach on this staff, by a large margin. Who knows where this program would be without him.

Now people are offended that Aranda's a great coach and he's getting his proper recognition for it.
