He might not walk into an offensive juggernaut but he'd definitely have plenty of defensive talent to work with and I think of the candidates being named he'd be the best option for sure

As a footnote, both of the stops in his collegiate resume' have resulted in the end of the tenure for the Head Coaches at Cal & USC (Jeff Tedford & Lane Kiffin).

You're gonna have a Rant stampede to hire Clancey for this fact alone.

Lots of guys coach in the NFL that have no business being a DC for a major college, so I chalk his NFL experience up to just that - experience - not an endorsement for the job. Hell Crowton was an OC in the NFL but we saw how that worked out for us.

My guy? I really don't have one.... maybe Venables? Kirby Smart? Arkansas DC? I was on the CP bandwagon, but after looking at that info I'm really not anymore.

Kiffins firing had nothing to do with Pendergast. It was his own doing. He made that USC defense the best in their conference his first year and that was with scholarship limitations

You'd take Pendergast over Smart?

Wow...

You don't think Kirby has picked up a few things in winning all those NC's? shite, I'd take him just to make Saban work that much harder next year.

A lot of the points you made are not objective at all

I don't think he is a journalist, his subjectivity is allowed

again, I was on the CP bandwagon and couldn't understand why LSU didn't jump on it immediately. Now I do. Please feel free to convince me otherwise if you desire to do so.

Hard to conVince someone who is judging someone off of overall record at cal who is always going to suck bbecause they can't get good talent.

Little fact you left out is that he took bottom of the barrel defenses in the pac 12 before he got there and turned them into the top defense in the conference.
He was there when usc was under major sanctions from the ncaa and still poster the top defense in the conference. The dude is a great game day coach calling plays and mid game adjustments.

He coached 12 years in the nfl. If you suck as a coach, you don't last that long in the league.

And lsu did jump on it...he was there first call

Also, you made the comment of head coaches losing their jobs while he was dc. Lane kiffin sucks as a head coach, not CP fault. See my Cal explanation above for their head coaching loss.

I disagree about your Cal comments. They were pretty relevant. Well, until Clancy arrived anyway.
