Tony Carruthers is currently at the Riverbend Maximum Security Institution in Nashville, Tennessee, serving his death row sentence following a halted execution attempt.
Case and Status Details
Current Location: Returned to his cell at the Riverbend Maximum Security Institution in Nashville, Tennessee.

Recent Event: On May 21, 2026, his scheduled execution was halted after medical personnel struggled for over an hour to establish the required venous access for a lethal injection.
Following the botched procedure, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee granted Carruthers a one-year temporary reprieve, postponing his execution into 2027.

Some civil servant is about to take an early retirement. Same MO, vein issues. It sounds like the perps have it figured out. Dehydrate yourself and they cant find a vein.

Had a gf once that once we broke up, her craziness hit the fan, got back together a few years later. Caught her watching botched lethals all the time to where the person doesn’t die, just severe pain and suffering.

How is it Canada can put down over ten thousand a year via MAID, and it seems like every death row injection in the US seems to be a cluster frick.

I'm with you...I say if they ain't dead after the first try, put a bullet in their head! It's time we stop pussy-footing around with these murderers and send out a message to other possible killers. Make 'em see we mean business!

MAID drs are private practice. The STATE of Tennessee kills people with government processes and procedures via STATE employees.

You can't really lump not getting an IV as a failed execution though. Lots of people are very hard to get IVs started on. They are acting like the execution team shot him in the head and he still lived

It is mostly old people and the disabled being killed by Canada, not murderers who are pulling out all the stops to stay alive.

I would bet the criminals probably frick their veins to intentionally make it harder, might as well what is there to lose?

Why can we not just slam a needle of fentanyl in the arse and be done with them? Apparently if a cop comes in contact with an amount of the size of a sand particle it kills a cop. fill a syringe and be done with these monsters

A quick bullet to the head would be instant and painless.

Yep, just like the Russians did with that serial killer Andre' Chikatilo who got the death sentence. A guard marched him from his cell to a room and put a bullet behind his ear---------done and dusted in seconds all for the cost of a single bullet.

i will start off by saying that i am anti-death penalty, but not due to "inhumane" grounds or "cruel and unusual" or anything like that.
but that said, the current state of the death penalty is ridiculous. in the attempt to make it as absolutely painless and gentle as clincal as possible, it has complicated it to a level where now we have incidents where they literally cant even kill the person. in the attempt to appease the ravenous left wing mob, which will never suddenly start supporting the death penalty, they have made it where they cant even do it successfully 100% of the time.
