What is the % of the time it works when the state murders the wrong person 2.5% of the time? I know, I know - people have always loved a good hanging or beheading. It’s is incredibly exciting to imagine the state doing what you are forbidden to do and that is kill someone but for sane people knowing that 2.5% of those convicted of capital crimes since the early 70a, as it turns out, not guilty. Go figure. Having the same people who manage the DMV, the state, executing people, is barbaric.

i agree with the argument you are making, but you are not goign to win many people to your side by saying that everyone who is pro death penalty is so because they are in some sort of dirty quasi voyeuristic way excited about imagining the government killing someone. that just makes you a dickhead. and also wrong.

frick that. Some capital offenses are so depraved the only true justice the victim and their family deserve is the life of the offender. Prison is not a deterrent for a multitude of crimes, should we get rid of those too? Different crimes deserve different punishment. That wont stop people from committing crime, but they still have to pay their debt to society and their victims. A needle in the arm is getting off easy for that evil bitch and they should wheel her out again tomorrow.

This is the only compelling argument against it. We know people get wrongfully convicted. Usually due to unreliable eyewitness testimony.

That's not impossible if you have actual and very clear video evidence.

But I don't think 100% is necessary.

Hypothetical: A child raped and killed and the perp's semen on the victim and fingerprints on the murder weapon. Perp's bloody footprints at the scene. Perp's vehicle on traffic/doorbell video leaving scene of the crime and their phone tracked to the location. Later confesses to crime.

That's not technically 100% but that's past a threshold of doubt.

Pike has a better batting average when it comes to intending to kill another human than does the Volunteer State.

Private versus Public effectiveness on display here.

This is why socialism doesn’t work sheeples.

I always hear of how the death penalty is no deterrent and yet everyone on death row fights tooth and nail to stay alive. Life without parole has proven to be no deterrent. And don’t think for a minute that leftists everywhere don’t want automatic parole eligibility for absolutely everyone.

if we're playing storytime and you give me a hypothetical situation where there is sure evidence, i can make up a hypothetical situation which makes it all false. that's pointless.

plus we arent talking about a single case in a vacuum. we are talking about all of the cases ever with a million variables from investigations, to evidene, to juries, to judges, to the media, etc etc etc. we will never reach a place where every person executed is done so with 100% evidence or even past a "threshold of doubt", whatever standard that is.

i'm sympathetic to being pro-death penalty. i spent many years being adamantly in support of it myself. like i said on another post, i just dont think we can give a human government and judicial system a power that requires it to be perfect.

those are two completely different things and cant even be compared. what does one even have to do with the other?

I think the death penalty should change. If there is evidence without a shadow of a doubt that a person did something, kill them, and kill them with a firing squad right after they walk out of their last appeal court date. If guilt is debatable to a logical group of people or jury, no death penalty. The threshold of evidence should be extremely high, and the process for killing them extremely fast.

Most liberals oppose capital punishment. Most conservatives think there is NOTHING the state is capable of doing. You’d think this would be a bipartisan idea….stop allowing the state to execute people. The problem is conservatives, who think the state can do nothing right, immediately change their mind when it comes to the state killing folks. It’s the damndest thing. There is no way in hell we should allow, let alone encourage, the state killing people in our names. They manage the DMV for fricks sale. They “patch” potholes for fricks sake. They run schools and they do all of that poorly but killing folks???? Oh yeah, THAT they are incapable of doing poorly.

Capital punishment is so rarely used that of course it’s not a deterrent.
Are you suggesting the government needs to be killing more of its citizens more frequently?

Think on that.

The only answer that is plausible, given the amount of data available, for anyone to support the state murdering people, is that the idea of the state doing something they can’t is titillating. It’s no longer possible that they can claim not to know how often the state wrongfully convicts….they enjoy the idea of other people suffering. We have been Molly coddling and babying them for about 20 years or so and they still love the idea of executing people. Shaming them so t change their minds but it will drive them back into the dark recesses and out of site of decent folks and we can put an end to the barbaric practice of executions for the enjoyment of a small number of sick bastards among us. It is the ONLY reason executions have ever taken place…. So a small number of truly sick frickers can have a moment

It should be so hard for the state to kill anyone that when the state does so and the person is later proven not to have been guilty of the crime they were convicted of that everyone, police, eyewitnesses, judges, DAs and jurors should all be imprisoned for the rest of their natural lives. If the person is actually executed and then exonerated everyone involved should summarily be executed….there is no doubt that they were involved in the murder of an innocent person. That would put an immediate end to executing people capriciously

50 cents is all it takes. Or we can just get a Sledgehammer and bash her head in, just like she did to Colleen Slemmer

This is one of those people who get hard as Chinese algebra when fantasizing about executions. They equate a medical procedure that is a decision made by an individual and their medical professionals with the state executing people when there is no doubt that the state has executed the wrong person. Most likely also claims to be a Christian and believe in a god of some sort. And there are MILLIONS of them….

The longer we baby these sick bastards the more people they will kill. I’m not the dickhead here, that’d be those still supporting the state killing people and those afraid to tell them they are sick bastards
