Wow! You must have never played a sport in your life. I had some great coaches and not so great coaches in my youth. The best coach I ever had was one that knew every player on the team and treated us all the same no matter how good or bad we were at our positions and I was one of the bad ones. That paticular coach, at one time, held the record for the most wins in high football in Louisiana.

managed a ton of people. A personal relationship is absolutely necessary for building culture and team chemistry. In an organization as small as a college football team, this cannot be delegated by the CEO/HC the way it must be in General Electric or Amazon. The HC should know the guy washing the uniforms, and that guy should be telling his family what a great guy the HC is.
If you wanna know why Saban was so successful, this is it. I’ve had the pleasure of speaking with some of his lsu players; some bench warmers and some stars. One thing they said was that he knew who you were, and everything about you he could find out. And it was genuine. BK did not care about his players and is not a players coach.

Are you a better employee if your boss engages with you or not. Are you a better employee if your boss trains/guides you or not?
The answer is obvious and is it the root of all of BK issues

What’s funny is no one on the board gave a shite about this until now
It was obvious from day one Kelly thought he was above his own team and program

No dude was on cruise control after ‘22. Now he can take a senior citizen cruise to fuxville

That’s fine to have that personality…but that shite ain’t gonna work with 18-22 YO kids needing guidance, coaching and attention.
Literally part of your job as a CFB head coach. What a farce he was.

My honest opinion is that he just isn't a people person. Some people are like that.
And yet this wasn’t a problem for him before LSU. Maybe a coach can’t be like this in portal/NIL era

There's a huge difference between youth sports / high school sports and a multi-hundred million dollar college football program with players threatening to leave constantly for more money.

You’re also not the coach of a football team of 100 guys that look up to you. In a position of leadership like a college football coach, you have to build relationships with your guys.

I'm devastated. Not sure how I will go on with being an LSU fan.

Definitely a key factor, but if that was the main factor then all the best coaches would be women.

For me I guess it was wishful thinking that the public persona didn’t reflect what was going on internally with the program. Sometimes you can judge a book by its cover. Mea culpa.

My head coach at Walker was like this when I played many years ago. As players, we were not allowed to talk to him, go into his office or anything. All the assistant coaches did 98% of the coaching and daily interactions. He would give pre game speeches ever once in a while and he would call the plays and that was about it.

It was pain in the arse for players to transfer pre-portal and pre-NIL. Not easy being a HC these days having to continually recruit your own roster and keeping them motivated. Even Kirby’s teams are not as feared as they were before all this. Kelly definitely couldn’t do it.

Does anyone really feel like he was all in on this job as far as work ethic?
I think Kelly likes the status that comes with being an SEC head football coach at a place like LSU. I don’t think he gave a damn about his players or the job itself. Seemed like he was always going through the motions.
It’s very telling that not a single player has made a post about how much he meant to them or anything of the sort. Even coaches who are bad and fired have players who love them. I’m not so sure I’ve ever seen an exit quite like this. Pretty much the whole world is like “see ya, don’t let the door hit you on your way out.”
Cliffs: he’s an a-hole, no one likes him, and he never cared about being here

‘John Casey’ you are correct that’s what the college athletes are today, you have to be able to keep them on the pedestal, praise them, pay them and worship them. It’s what they are used to in today’s world, Coaches need to be able to understand what society has created.

Just a few things on Coaches and players:
1. At least 60% of these guys come from broken homes who need a father. Coaches often take over that role, whether they want to or not.
2. A lot of these kids have never been further than 50 miles from home. Meaning they are on their own for the first time. Structure and guidance are often craved by these kids. A CEO type coach isn't doing that.
3. Most of these guys a more interactions with their S&C coaches than any other coach, but if the example isn't set from the top, why is the S&C guy going to care that much if the head guy doesn't.
4. It is true that they are getting paid but considering the number of NFL players that go broke, the family and various entourages around these kids are not the best. They really need someone to help and educate them on life.
5. Kelley has had multiple players involved with criminals. Although that isn't rare for a college program. It is rare that a player has two murderers and multiple weapons in his university paid for apt.
Personal Interaction with your players is very important. The same as your own kids. I may be mistaken, but I remember a survey of employees that said a healthy work enviornment was more important than more pay.

Why does no one try to explain why these homes are broken in the first place? Is that not important?
