Makes sense.

That's one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. Even the most doubtful of people should be able to realize that most coaches get three years to prove themselves. I mean, the guy won 9 games in his first full year on the job. It's not as if he didn't get to a bowl game. Not meeting expectations and being on the hot seat after year one are entirely different conversations.

Les was winning 8/9 games/year. He was fired. Orgeron was not hired to continue that winning percentage.

You must have missed the Troy game and the worst loss to MSU in school history.

We don't disagree at all, but talking about hot seats and/or firing a guy after one year is just silly IMO.

No one is a bigger O skeptic than me, but fair is fair.

New, and truly compelling angle.

Edward will get three years unless this season turned into an unmitigated disaster. That would require 6 wins or fewer.

It was a continuity hire. An experiment. He was hired to keep recruiting momentum, get more out of the offense (lol), and get us back over the hump where we at least weren’t losing to the Arkansas and OM types of the conference.
It wasn’t a rebuild. If it was O wouldn’t have even been considered.
We will know after this season if the experiment worked or not.
If we are still not beating the top tier like Alabama, UGA, and Auburn, and also still losing to mid tier teams like Florida, MSU, A&M will be this year, there is no reason to think we won’t be the following years when each of those teams continues to improve under their coaching upgrades.

Not really. He won 9 games last year.
This year he has his own hand picked coordinators, QB, etc.
If we regress in on field productivity, who is at fault?

Ok. When you say regressed, how far are we taking to get fired after year 2?

Did you even read the post to which you responded? Geez.

I'm often told on this site that we must add his interim gigs to his overall record when judging him as a coach. I don't agree, but if that's the rule we're playing under then that means he's practically starting his third year as LSU's head coach.
He coached LSU for 9 games in 2016, all 13 in 2017. He will be coaching LSU in his 23rd game as head coach when LSU takes the field against Miami to start the 2018 season.
One way or the other, calling him a typical second year coach isn't quite correct.

I've been consistent here and don't count the interim year because IMO the pressures are completely different than being full time. I consider this going into year two.

Oh...I agree.
But watch how fast someone mentions the interim record when they talk about his time at LSU.
Either way, having coached LSU, even as an interim coach, for 9 games in 2016, gives him a slightly different look than if we had hired someone else in November of 2016 who would, actually, be starting his true second year.
I agree with RB10 even though I hate his point...unless there is a catastrophe, Orgeron gets the 2019 season...at least to start.
ETA: Case in point...someone likely downvoated you for suggesting an interim coach is not the same thing as a full time head coach.

If we remove his interim tag. His top three wins as HC are:
1. Auburn 10-4
2. TAMU 7-6
3. Ole Miss 6-6

I don't believe we'll be bad enough to justify firing Orgeron after this season, but I think it's fair to consider him on the hot seat.
Whether or not anyone agrees with preseason W/L projections or head coach rankings, I think a lot of people realize this team needs to perform in big games, and if they don't, everything could unravel quickly for Orgeron.

It's amazing to me that people don't understand how the thing with O is going to work.
His deal is predicated on immediate performance. If he continues to win 8-9 games we are probably stuck with him for several years until the admin gets tired of that (basically what happened with Les at the end of his career). Now if O drops below that plateau then he immediately becomes expendable because of his history and the fact that as of right now he has basically won/contributed nothing for LSU.
Now if, by some miracle, he wins an SEC championship and plays in the playoff then he is a made man that immediately gets a huge amount of equity.
Also if/when he beats Saban he gets a decent amount of equity as well.
I'm not saying that's a good strategy or even how it should be....but that is how it is.
