It is safe to say joe found out through the courting process that neither of those guys was the one he wanted to be the head coach at the price they wanted.

If Alleva thought the Orgeron hire was going to work out the way it has then Orgeron would have been first choice all along. Instead, Alleva fell into the Orgeron hire because he had painted himeself into a corner.

Well he coulda went with Many many other guys, besides fisher and Herman. But he knew O was a better hire than them. Joe deserves credit.

Early in the process, Joe Alleva appeared on a local radio show on which a host asked him about a search committee, and he famously replied, “I am the search.” There is some truth to his comment. During this search, Alleva cut out his closest confidantes and at least two high-level athletic administrators, Verge Ausberry and Eddie Nunez, along with mega boosters, all of them kept in the dark.

Honestly don’t blame him for leaving these guys out. They always leak information

Could be wrong but I think we wanted Herman, but just hit a point where Texas outbid us...

I still want Herman.....

After he's fired from UT, he can come over and be our OC/QB coach.

Who would you rather have running your program the guy that wants the job or the guy that would settle for the job.
Whoever is the best coach of the two tbh. And that appears to be Ed Orgeron

His offense has been figured out and has gotten stale.

He was never gonna come here and just used us to force Texas to make a move. Had Texas not made a move and kept Strong one more year, he would have come here. But I honestly think he would have taken less money to go to Texas. Essentially we were his backup plan and/or leverage.

The last 3 coaches LSU has had have each one a title. I think that says a lot about LSU.

Yeah, because he’s been so good with both of those things at Texas, right? Or maybe he’s been a total shitshow away from Meyer.

I'm glad we didn't get Jimbo Fisher of Scott Frost either.

Tom herman would have gotten joe burrow to lsu ,for sure . Hes the one that was trying to talk urban into offering him ,even though he wasn't getting any big time power 5 offers. I think herman saw burrow as Alex smith and that's why herman went to bat for him to urban .

So theres no way he wouldnt have come with herman as coach . At the time it would have been a perfect fit in Joe's mind, positive on that. They both said they loved each other after the texas game (not Aggie love) so they had to be tight .

He would have went 15-0 last year as well ,as long as we ran our new ,at the time, offense. We had too much talent for a coach to mess up last year.

I love os people skills for recruiting and his motivation to get ready to play.
Hes not scared to scrap something that's good but not great.like Matt Canada's system after one year.

Two NY6 bowl wins with two top-10 finishes in 5 years as a head coach isn't a total shitshow.

That said, I don't think he has the personality to win championships at a major program, especially somewhere like Austin. With all their supposed resources and advantages, Texas only has one national title since DKR was roaming the sidelines. Not everyone can handle that job.

That's an assumption that everything from the 2017 season to now would have been static. We would have had different recruits, Ensminger would not have been the OC and therefore would not have gotten Brady and the QB situation in 2018 would likely have been different and Burrow may not have even been an option no matter how close they were.
