People saying he missed him are fixated on helmet to helmet contact I guess, but he absolutely still hit Daniels after he had given himself up. That’s a personal foul all day.

Most people think that there should be a targeting 1 (without intent) that does not result in an ejection and a targeting 2 (with intent) that results in an ejection. You can’t call a guy for targeting because he tried to spear a RB going down the sideline but whiffed and flew into the benches.
The rule reads ambiguously & subjectively which is why the rules are interpreted openly.
"Targeting" means that a player takes aim at an opponent for purposes of attacking with forcible contact that goes beyond making a legal tackle or a legal block or playing the ball. Some indications of targeting (emphasis NCAA's) include but are not limited to:
Launch-a player leaving his feet to attack an opponent by an upward and forward thrust of the body to make forcible contact in the head or neck area
A crouch followed by an upward and forward thrust to attack with forcible contact at the head or neck area, even though one or both feet are still on the ground
Leading with helmet, shoulder, forearm, fist, hand or elbow to attack with forcible contact at the head or neck area
Lowering the head before attacking by initiating forcible contact with the crown of the helmet
Note 2: Defenseless player (Rule 2-27-14). When in question, a player is defenseless. Examples of defenseless players include but are not limited to:
A player in the act of or just after throwing a pass
A receiver attempting to catch a forward pass or in position to receive a backward pass, or one who has completed a catch and has not had time to protect himself or has not clearly become a ball carrier
A kicker in the act of or just after kicking a ball, or during the kick or the return
A kick returner attempting to catch or recover a kick, or one who has completed a catch or recovery and has not had time to protect himself or has not clearly become a ball carrier
A player on the ground
A player obviously out of the play
A player who receives a blind-side block
A ball carrier already in the grasp of an opponent and whose forward progress has been stopped
[quarterback any time after a change of possession
a ball carrier who has obviously given himself up and is sliding feet first"

It appears the Bama player’s foreman comes across Daniels’ face mask. Right? Wrong?
It does. Can someone make a gif from the link above? I am having trouble with it.

bullshite! Daniels waited too long to slide. The Bama player was blameless.

You realize it was a no call because he didn’t touch Daniels.

Well. If you miss it isn't targeting b the rules, right?
If I try to hold a guy but miss, it isn't holding.
It was a terrible call. Dude launched himself toward Daniels after Daniels started his slide. He most definitely "targeted" him, he just missed him. If they really are trying to protect the players, then the guy should have been called for it because it was clearly his intent.

What? It was called and reviewed. But, the guy's aim was so bad he completely whiffed on the forearm shiver attempt at JD's head. The ref's explanation was funny. Basically said, "There was no targeting. The player missed."

False
27. Targeting, generally defined as leading with the helmet to make forcible above-the-shoulder contact with an opponent,
By that definition it was absolutely targeting

The intent was there, but he completely missed Daniels.
So like 90% of the times when they tried to tackle him?

He 100% hit his facemask
Ok he didn’t completely miss him, but what I meant was the contact/hit wasn’t a “target” per the rules.

He touched him, it just wasn't at the helmet (or shoulder for that matter) like it seemed at first. He kind of grazed him on the forearm from what I can see.

He didn’t hit him in the head but he did contact Daniels after the slide and he dove way after the slide
It was a garbage call to pick up the flag and it was a trashy play.

To'oto'o should have been tossed first play.

Then the name of the penalty needs to be changed. Just cause you miss doesn’t mean you didn’t “target”.

they factor intent
I don't know the rule, but if what you say about intent is true, then those refs were just letting branch skate when what he did was really dangerous

The Bama player just grazed him but did he still not launch at a QB sliding? Seemed like an obvious call but a lot of things seemed obvious that the refs F'd up that night.

Play still caused JD’s head to bounce on turf. So much for avoiding concussions
