re: Can we be honest about Guidry?

It’s a back. That is a tough injury to just say he will be good in 3-4 weeks.
Agreed. Which is why I thinks it’s weird that they keep giving out specific weekends as to when he might return.

To learn more about rotational athletes with back issues, google Fred Couples.
Even with millions on the line each week, him being a favorite to win, and having the smoothest swing on the planet - he had to opt out of nearly every tournament.

Back is a tough injury to work through for throwing motions and doubly so for a pitcher. He isn't just trying to get back to where he can throw a ball generally hard and run. He is having to get back to a point that he can use repeatable mechanics to locate a ball with velocity and consistency over the plate.

Or...... we're doing really great without him so there's absolutely no reason to rush him. Be patient.

That's not what it means at all. He told you in his statement what it means. It means that they are going to test him later in the week and he has to pass certain protocols in order to advance. If he passes, he will play. If he does not pass, then the coach will be telling us Thursday that it will be at least another week.

Maybe. I think even if he passed benchmarks already jay wouldn't tell us until he had to . He's about as secretive as possible in regards to injuries.

Either you're taking this out of context or Jay is mistaken.
Just off the top of my head, Primeaux and Noot faced SEC teams last year.
He probably meant any meaningful innings. They both pitched a combined 1 1/3 innings in SEC play last year.

If we're being honest we're getting to the point where it is very advantageous for Guidry to just redshirt and preserve that draft leverage for next year rather than potentially come back late this year, maybe he throws 1-5 innings and doesnt have it and then just destroyed any leverage he has while having an awful short season himself. Might be where they're at if the back is giving him some issues still. Maybe he feels he can be 80-90% effective but is that good enough to risk it? I dont know.
On our end, we really gotta find 2 more reliable relivers IMO and hopefully that can just come naturally from guys like Noot, Schimidt, Ware, Williams etc...If we cant get that by the end of the regular season and Guidry's issues seem mostly resolved, I think we gotta beg him to pitch for us end of reg season/postseason because it's going to be real rough trying to navigate postseason play with only 2-3 reliable bullpen arms, even if they all can go 3,4,5 innings each time out. Ultimately we run into that scenario where we have a 4th game in as many days (or less) basically and thats a "uh oh" scenario for us as we stand. Keep in mind we lose 1 game in the regional and we are playing 4 games in 3 days and 5 in 4 days like the UNC regional. When you get yourself into that scenario, a deep pen is an absolute must unless your bats just absolutely mash towards the end.
Even then, say we go a perfect 3-0 in the regional, 2-0 or 2-1 in the Super. In the CWS you're almost inevitably going to have to reach a bit deep in the pen before getting to the CWS final unless you're lucky and go 3-0.

Might be a strategy where he eases back with some light innings in late April, gets in his groove in Hoover and is lights out in Omaha.

Hilarious how many people still think it's a back injury lol

What I find hilarious is your inability to ever make a good post.

Every week it’s been “we will see next week” and then nothing changes. If this is an injury that is week by week for months wouldn’t that be known at an earlier date? I want him back and he’s a valuable asset to the team. But these vague updates seem fishy.
Why does this bother you, and other fans so much??? I just don’t get it.
What part of Guidry has a bad back, he is having a difficult time hitting the benchmarks set for his health in order to return, do you not understand???
Just because you want him back so desperately, and you are incredibly impatient doesn’t mean Jay or anyone else hasn’t been honest.
Jay has been very honest. Jay wants him back too. Jay, and the medical staff, have set benchmarks, in order to protect Guidry from further injuring his back, and Guidry just can’t seem to reach them. Bad backs are very tricky and can take a long time to heal properly.
Stop being so damned impatient and enjoy the players that are playing and hope the best for Guidry.

at this point, who cares. Guidry is the 3rd best reliever in the bullpen AT BEST. It' not like he's a stud or anything, he was getting crushed like a meth rock at a roofer's convention last year. Gimme Cowan and Evans on Fri-Sat, and a group effort of Noot, Schmidt, and Meyers on Sun.

Johnson tried to paint a positive picture for a return soon.
Dandy Don (Scott) has information that is less optimistic.
I wish him the best.

I really dont understand this extremism among Guidry in our fanbase.
Guidry got hit at a clip of .165 last year. That's insanely good. He gave up 3 XBH in 24.1 IP, also insanely good. He was objectively our 2nd best reliever last year behind Griffin Herring. He didnt give up an earned run in his last 10 appearances in 2024. He gave up 4 hits in those final 10 appearances and all 4 were singles. During fall scrimmages he absolutely dominated looking extremely promising coming into this season.
Pro Tip - in a current bullpen with literally only 2 relievers the coaches trust, a 3rd one would be really really really really beneficial about now.
Kade Anderson isnt going 9 innings every weekend from here on out. It's a luxury we have 2 excellent relievers able to go 3-4-5 innings no problem right now, but you absolutely gotta have more than 2 relievers most SEC weekends and especially in the postseason.

He’s said it before. GG hasn’t pitched this year. Kade is only pitcher to have pitched conference both this season and last.
