They fired him midseason and made him go back out there as a lame duck. You think the guys that committed to play for him were gonna stick around after that? Tbh I wouldn’t.

Rapid decline? He was quite literally the worst coach in Ole Miss history. He got extremely fortunate with Burrow and Brady. 2020-2021 were who Orgeron truly is.

3 years is long enough to reload in the transfer portal era.

He’s had the transfer portal, NIL and three years to get over that. This is all on BK.

O became more concerned with chasing tail rather than championships.

When O got fired, everyone who had talent enough to get an offer transferred, what was left for BK was those with barely enough talent to play for LSU or were head cases.

He had one year of Brady on staff, and took over a team with one of the best defensive minds in college football already on staff.

Then once Aranda left and he brought in Pelini, all shite went to hell. Most blame Pelini, but most of the blame for that horrid defense was on O. He insisted on running a 4-3 base defense with a bunch of 3-4 talent. He refused to use that year to transition the defense and it was a disaster.

Add in a bunch of opt outs and the fact O never really built a culture at LSU that was uniting and that was what you got.

He also screwed this all up at the start of NIL and free transfers, which just made things worse since players had a free out.

Can someone explain Orgeron's rapid decline

Right after championship:

Lost a ton of talent to the NFL from the championship team that wasn't the deepest roster yet.
Lost his DC and defensive staff as expected given such a great year.
Lost Brady on offense because he liked NFL better and value was peak.
Covid hit, killing practice time for new players and coaches.
Due to covid faced an all SEC schedule. Still went 5-5.

2020 Season:
Jamar Chase opts out due to Covid
Top defensive player in hospital night before first game.
Starting QB injured in 3rd game leaving 2 true freshman to finish last 7 games.

2021 offseason:
Need to replace DC.
First DC chosen, but Woodward clubs the contract for some reason.
Finds 2nd DC who eventually rights the ship on defense.
Ensminger retires and Woodward provides zero help on coaching search there either. Takes a flier on Peetz.
Idiot fans declare his seat hot and criticize single man for having hot girlfriends.

2021 Season:
Starting QB gets injured before Season leaving a true soph and true frosh as QB's.
Fired halfway through Season yet still finishes strong and keeps recruiting class intact.

quote:

how he left the roster in shambles?

This is the biggest lie. The 39 scholarship players are who was available for the bowl game (that BK did not coach despite being paid well), not the number he had.
The recruiting class left BK with 2 future NFL tackles and other promising players.
BK has yet had to recruit a starting QB in year 3 as Daniels called LSU and Nuss was already on the roster. Yet in year 3 apparently BK couldn't find a QB capable of being a backup.

Ask Mike Norvell at FSU. They've won 1 game this year.

Bigger fraud than BK? How many NC does Kelly have? The same number he will end his career with. Zero!

Covid, did not manage well, black lives matter bull shite did not march, new qb, new def coor, wife screwing around on him just to name a few. Take all that away and he would still be the coach and prolly would have won a natty with Daniels

He never had assistants that coached with him that liked him.

When you don’t have a good crew of assistants, hiring assistants can become tough when you are head coach.
