is there a middle man for this, or are people sending private messages for these kids and working it out straight with them?

For the company paying? Of course

Yes, people with more money than sense might be interested in pissing away some money for their school.

how is it against the rules for a high dollar booster to give a kid money to come play for LSU but it is OK for a high dollar booster who owns Raising Canes (for example) to pay the kid big NIL money if he comes to LSU?

and this is what will happen at places like Bama, OSU and USC. It is easier to hide the money trail. Big boosters can just tell a local business to hire this qb and I will funnel the money through you

An example is a Miami booster formed some sort of booster group or company to handle NIL. The school cannot be involved with securing funding per NCAA rules.

Well, Texas just stated they are going to straight up pay every football player 100k each year at UT through a booster group.

It isn't for advertisement, it is straight up just paying players to come to your school.

This is just the start for them, they are hoping to raise it to much more in the coming years.

Advertisers (largely boosters) pay money to players to market for them. I wonder how much of the money being ponied up for coaching buyouts by the boosters is affecting how much there is leftover for NIL. I'll accept my downvotes. But schools didn't fight NIL b/c they care about amateur statuses. They know advertisers/boosters will spend X amount of money. With NIL, they are having to share that pot of money with the players.

You mean, boosters?

And I wouldn't classify them as "more money than sense" - I would term it "enough money to secure the right recruits".

That is one of many questions surrounding NIL that no one seems to have a straight answer for. To my knowledge, each state has differing laws regarding NIL, and even more that are in legislative process.

As a tie in to your question, does NIL allow players to hire actual sports agents, or just legal representation strictly tied to endorsements? How much, if any, consulting/help is the school officially allowed to offer their players in regards to garnering endorsements? Can they film/photograph images and likeness of anything university related?

There doesnt seem to be any type of NCCA or conference governing oversite for any of this.

Prominent University of Texas donors, former Longhorns athletes and veteran sports marketer Nick Shuley launched an eight-figure NIL program Wednesday that should become the template for deep-pocketed supporters of blue-blood schools nationwide.

The Clark Field Collective has secured an initial pledged commitment of $10 million for Texas NIL activities, an attention-grabbing starting figure for a program whose goal is nothing short of possessing the largest dedicated fund in the nation for college athletes. On the NIL front, consider the nationwide arms race among well-heeled boosters well under way.

Tigerdroppings sponsorships would be an interesting concept. A lot of people that frequent these boards and could easily chip in 5 to 10 dollars a piece

What does LA or Baton Rouge offer as far as NIL deals for players? Surely Canes cant endorse them all.. We need prominent companies in and outside of LA; LSU athletics should okay a role in getting these deals but not sure how.

This. College football as we knew it is gone. It's been replaced with a semi pro league with no salary cap. So now these rich schools desperate for championships can buy players in broad daylight.

I agree with the NIL part, for sure. And I'm fairly confident I'm not a fan of the transfer portal - atleast the idea of it. Serious question - are there guidelines as to when a player can enter the portal? Meaning, is there a certain window that they can enter or is it just anytime they want?

Make it happen, Chicken. This NIL crap freaks me out a bit. Sure, Louisiana has the athletes, but do we have the businesses/money needed to keep the players within the state?

I have no problem donating to keep LSU competitive.

they need to change the rule to let the player be in their football gear to do the advertisements. A lot of companies aren’t interested in ads where the player is not allowed to have their school stuff on.

seems UT is figuring it out without changing rules. Just read this in the article that was shared a few posts below talking about UT's NIL deals.

quote:

UT now has a partnership with The Brandr Group so the athletes can use UT logos and trademarks.

it needs to go away. Programs are straight up BUYING top players from other programs. This is supposed to be amateur sports.

I understand. My son and my brother are Naval Academy grads. They do it "right". Another brother is a graduate of Notre Dame, and they do it more "right" than most other places.

However, the genie is out of the bottle. It's not moral for these coaches to get the amount of money they do, and the schools to get the huge amount of money they do, and the kids to not get anything over the table. NIL is the best of a whole lot of bad options going forward.

(And, that's ignoring the fact that college football has always been corrupt.)

Yes, the college football experience is changing. Can't stop it. We just have to figure out how to make it work for us.

I guess, but you simply cannot have NIL AND the portal at the same time. One has to go, if not both.

We FINALLY get an early signing period to end much of the 11th hour recruiting BS and now we have to deal with collegiate free agency? These staffs fight to hard to get these kids commitment too lose them like this.
