Attrition will likely happen after the draft shakes out and the portal guys we are after make decisions. I'm sure many of these guys want to stay, but certainly understandable that they'll look elsewhere to try and get some playing time if they can't here.

Today is the portal deadline.

6'5" 240 lefty that touches triple digits, lol fricking crazy that he's coming to college

If he does end up at LSU it truly is. I'm still in disbelief that this is likely to happen.

Different world now.

Ah well I guess we will know sooner than later. They can come back at any time instead of transfer, too? Is there a deadline for the portal decision once in?

This is the highest ranked HS prospect to ever make it to LSU. Higher than Crews.

Damn didn't know that. Awesome. Looks like we got a good one.

I don’t want to tempt the baseball gods but imagine a starting rotation of Johnson, Shores, and Mayers in 2025.

Yeah I feel like we've seen this story before. Kid and parents say LSU, teams and agents decide to up their offers....we shall see!

He's got Chase Shores level potential his freshman year. Could be reliever or starter depending on how the other arms shake out. Tremendous stuff from the left side.

Using Shores as a model, I’d say he would have easily been a starter midway through SEC play…but started in the pen.

Agree

But it is entirely possible LSU will have a better staff overall than this year's group.

It’s less likely IMO. A lot of additions would need to be made.

I knew JJ was a great hire but he has been even better than I thought he would be. And this team next year will be better pitching plus you have White and others returning.

They have through 7/25 to make a deal. Everything between now and then is a negotiation.

The Cardinals just signed their 6th rounder for full slot. Sometimes things aren’t a negotiating tactic, they’re just what’s actually happening.

ETA: and they went over slot for their 9th rounder.

So that more than solidifies it right project?

Pretty much. They signed two top ten rounders for slot and one for over. If they're trying to cobble together enough money to make Johnson think, they're doing a really bad job of it.

How does this kid compare to AJ Puk from UF a few years ago? Both big lefties with lower arm slots throwing mid to high 90s with a nasty slider. I just remember that dude was pretty damn good when throwing strikes and he’s who I thought of when reading about this kid.
