This is a perfect example of why so many military guys have a hard time getting back to civilian life.

The obvious answer to the question “what would be different?” is the objective, scale, and support.
Rhodesia was trying to sustain and ultimately win an entire national war while isolated and sanctioned. You’re talking about a few elite teams conducting limited operations with full U.S. intelligence and logistical support.
You said they could do “serious damage,” not that 15 men could permanently eliminate every cartel in Mexico. He’s arguing against a claim you never made.

You're telling him that he needs to make the point he tried to make much smaller for it to make sense, by redefining "serious damage" into something more akin to "damage they may not even notice"

There’s an enormous amount of ground between permanently eliminating every cartel and causing insignificant damage. That middle ground is where “serious damage” has been sitting since the original post.
