Don’t fall for it.
We are currently in the “Tulane’s been pretty good the last few years, it might be good to play them” phase of the Tulane guilt-us-into-playing-them cycle.
It will be followed by the “Tulane is currently the best team in Louisiana” phase then the “LSU is scared to play us” phase.
Then we will schedule them, play them, and realize again (after granting them all sorts of special treatment) how much it just isn’t worth it.

Most years? They haven't beaten us since 1982. They have only beaten us 5 times since the end of WW2

Tulane coach was even publicly lobbying for it last week. Look at Tulanes schedule. They travel to Ole Miss this year. You know they'd rather come right down the road.
I think the issue is that Tulane wants a return game, and LSU doesn't want to give them one. Ole Miss played at Yulman

I wouldn't call The Dome a neutral site game when referring to Tulane. It's still basically a home game for LSU with Tulane taking most of the pot, which is why the rivalry ended.
The entire point was we lose a home game as a result which is financial net loss for us. It would be dumb for us to play there every other year. If they would agree to 3x-4x here than maybe 1 game there in a series sure....but no reason for us to just burn money to play them there every other year. We obviously arent traveling to their tiny stadium.
Even if we struck a deal where we got 60/40 or 70/30 split of the game at the dome it pales in comparison to what we get for a home game here. Not every neutral site game is created equal, playing a team like FSU in the dome creates way more $ for us.

No.
That would put LSU as the only SEC team playing a non-P4 conference opponent in the final week of the season. If nothing else, it would make LSU totally irrelevant in that final week. Plus, Tulane is not really a "rival". The rivalry that once existed is a relic of a bygone era of college football. It's very clear CFB as a whole is moving towards the P4 conferences separating from the non-p4 conferences. An era where games between the power conf opponents and non-power conf opponents won't take place. Or, if they do, it will be no more than 1 a year. While today it may be a reasonable proposal given Tulane has been a solid program the last few years, that has been the anomaly. One that isn't likely to continue given the gap financial/resources gap between the P4 programs and non-P4 programs continues to widen.
From Tulane's perspective they would either want to play at their home stadium or in the Superdome. And I'm sure they would want the full gate from a game in the Superdome because it would be their "home" game...even if the crowd was 75% LSU fans.
There is a reason the "rivalry" ended as the SEC became more and more of a power conf. There's ZERO reason to bring it back now

Will not happen. LSU loses $$ by playing Tulane each year home and home.

I agree 100%. Make it 2 in DV, 1in Dome.

Someone mentioned we play Houston, in another thread.
Despite there being little to no history with that team, it makes a lot more sense to do that instead.
Houston is a P4 team, that would satisfy the OOC stipulation. As far as challenge, I doubt Houston presents much more of a threat than Tulane would on the field. We should be able to count that as a W.
We don't have history with UH, but we do with the city, there's a ton of alumni and LSU fans there. And unlike New Orleans, there are other schools actively challenging in that area, so it would be beneficial for us to make appearances there.
And while we haven't played Houston much, we did play Rice a lot (55 times), another Houston school.

Why doesn't lsu try structure the contract with Tulane for Tulane’s home game(s) like Notre dame supposedly does with their rivalry series with navy
games played at tiger stadium:
LSU shall pay Tulane a guaranteed of less than $2 million per game played at tiger stadium
Game(s) played at the super dome:
50/50 ticket revenue split****
Tulane is the designated home team
AAC owns the broadcasting rights and shall keep all broadcasting revenue and sponsorship revenue generated from the game.
**** couldn’t find details on how Notre Dame and navy spilt the neutral site ticket revenue but pretty sure Notre dame only agree to give navy a home game during even years of Notre dame gets at least 40% of the ticket revenue since most of the fans at the neutral site games are Notre dame fans

Pretty sure Tulane wouldn't budge on giving up enough/any of their home gate...

On an annual series, Tulane would want a home and home arrangement . Tulane doesn't want to play in the dome, LSU doesn't want to play in a 30,000 seat soccer stadium.
They hosted Ole Miss at Yulman. Ole Miss certainly would have brought enough fans to New Orleans to make that a dome game. But Tulane isn't interested in playing a "home" game in front of a a road crowd. At Yulman, they keep it to their cohort of Tulane fans, sell out the visitors section and have a sellout in their featured home.

That would leave two open non conference slots; These spots are already taken for the next several years. It would have to be way down the road.

Absolutely not.

LSU gets absolutely nothing out of playing Tulane.

If they do a TS/Superdome series instead of TS/Yulman, I would go the the dome game every time.
I would like to see the annual game reinstated.

Some people never learn.
A loco (local) radio guy, Eric Asher, wants the Governor to pressure LSU into playing Tulane once a year. He wants them to open the season.
Some folks NEVER learn.
How did Tulane handle baseball tickets the last the Tigers played there?
IIRC you had to buy a season ticket package to be able to secure a ticket to the LSU game.
By the way Asher was a Tulane water boy.
The only folk in New Oeleans who want to Tiger to do poorly are Tulane folks.

The ONLY way LSU should EVER agree to play Tulane in New Orleans is if the game is at the Superdome
They need to make it quite clear that they will NEVER play EVER in Tulane’s little tiny high school stadium
If Tulane agrees to this, and is willing to do a 66/33 revenue split for the dome game, I’m OK with playing them every year
