Brian Kelly's History with QB Controversies

Brian has a history of not committing to a QB and splitting time b/t guys.
2010 - Dayne Crist and Tommy Rees
2011 - Dayne Crist and Tommy Rees
2012 - Everett Golson and Tommy Rees
2015 - Malik Zaire and Deshone Kizer
2016 - Malik Zaire and Deshone Kizer (4-8 losing season)
2017 - Brandon Wimbush and Ian Book
2018 - Brandon Wimbush and Ian Book
Hopefully, he learned his lesson in 2016. QB controversies can divide a locker room. He has some damn good talent at QB this year. Here is to hoping he manages it correctly!

Everett Golson thing feels like it was 2 years ago. Damn that was a decade.

I remember his Cincy teams using multiple QBs as well, but I think that was mostly due to injury.

I think the 2015 year for ND was an injury issue and Kelly didn't pick a starter for 2016 because they both played well. That is the one year it bit him in the behind.
He has a tough decision this fall!

I sure hope he’s learned his lesson. How can a QB get in a rhythm when he’s splitting time? It’s like when we were going like 10 receivers deep last year. It’s much harder to get in a rhythm.

I would hope he would settle on a QB by the end of Spring but most likely the battle is going to go through Summer Camp.

I’ll take a QB controversy over the controversy at QB being that we have no one to take snaps at the position like we have been in recent memory

Just seeing the history at ND, I think we fans should go ahead and acknowledge we may very well see multiple guys play in meaningful games this year. Unless one of the guys completely blows Kelly away.

16 Coach Kelly named Kiser and stuck with it. Zaire transferred for 5th year.

Well it won’t be Kelly’s fault if one QB can’t separate himself. He still will find a way to win just like at ND

I think we go into the FSU game with two QBs rotating series until one breaks away from the other and gels with the team.

Much better to have a controversy over which very good option to choose vs who will require you to hold your nose with the least force.
