Normally 5 to 10%??? WTF. Well this explains things.

Brian Kelly said on @LSUradio that LSU incorporated tackling into practice more than usual this week. It wasn't all tackling to the ground, but he said 40% of practice was about form. Would "normally be 5-10% of the practice."

Blows my mind they barely coach tacking anymore. It’s not just us either.

I remember tackling in practice every day in middle school. We don’t know how to tackle anymore? What kind of shite is this?

Hopefully the other 60% was emphasis on adjusting to play calling from the opponent.

Y’all relax. Most teams never practice tackling especially middle of year.

I still think you should know how to tackle if you are playing big time college football

Sure. If they're not ranked as one of the worst defenses in the country with a huge body of work of missed tackles.

Not sure what else they're practicing because the schemes we have our there are pedestrian.

Most teams don't risk injury of live tackling mid year unless it becomes a glaring problem and it certainly has.

Turn on tv and put on any college game and focus solely on tackling and you will be astounded at the inability to wrap up and get people to the ground. There are so many factors that have got us here

The Rant would come unglued if the team had injuries because of tackling in practice. Everyone is upset with the results so far including the players and coaches. But, critiquing every small detail is insanity.

Some on here have no ability to be rational.

That’s about what I would expect, wouldn’t you? By the time you get to SEC play wouldn’t you expect guys to only need a weekly refresher?

Now should they have recognized the current problems sooner? Probably, but 5-10 seems right under normal conditions.

Are you joking? This is standard now. There are some teams that likely do none all week

Not disagreeing with you on 5 to 10% mid-season under normal conditions. But this D is about as abnormal as it gets.

At this level the players should know the absolute most basic function of defense and be able to tackle. 10% dedicated time during the season should be sufficient to maintain this fundamental skill.

I bet a lot of it is due to fear of all the weak penalties these days.

Probably less practice tackling as well due to the focus on preventing injuries.

Bullcrap if you believe Saban and Kirby only practice tackling 5% of the time.

Football is a tough sport, played it a dozen years as a linebacker, always practiced tackling.

Okay, some of y’all need to relax. This is DIVISION 1 football. A majority of these players SHOULD know how to properly tackle at this stage. 5-15% is probably in line with everyone nationally.

Maybe Kelly should’ve identified this issue sooner and course corrected.
