Brian Kelly & SEC coaches want games vs Big 10

LSU's Brian Kelly on Wednesday said SEC coaches favor adding one nonconference game against a Big Ten opponent in a scheduling agreement, but they "need a partner" to do it.
"We want to compete against the Big Ten," Kelly said, following the last day of coaches meetings at the annual SEC spring meetings. "Look, the Big Ten right now holds it on the SEC. They won the last two national championships. That's the reality of it. We want to get challenged in that regard, and we'd like to be able to get that done.
"That is up to our commissioner and the ADs to see if that can happen or not, but that's the wish of the room."
Still, Kelly said the coaches made their "voices clear" this week to their respective athletic directors and SEC commissioner Greg Sankey.
"You've got to get a partner who says we're in for that, too," Kelly said.

Future of college football is SEC and Big 10 forming super league and leaving the other conferences behind.

I think he’s one of the few coaches if not only who said 9 game SEC plus B1G matchup. Other coaches may consider it if SEC stays at 8 games but these teams that also have yearly OOC rivalry games would never accept all 3.

BK needs to be worrying about Clemson. Not things he can’t control. Say “ I’m for whatever helps LSU, but right now we’re focused on Clemson. We better not lose another opener.

As long as you don’t schedule OhSt,Mich,PennSt ,with our Sec opponents that’s great. They can make the schedule to though.Evan with a 16 team playoff in the future you can get a few losses to many and not get in.LSU is not at the level talent wise yet to face a oh st and the next week play a Ole Miss then Ala .that takes a real 85 MAN roster.

He’s at the SEC Spring meetings in Destin. One of the big things being discussed at the meetings is the SEC & Big Ten scheduling each other as opponents for one non conference game. Reporters are going to ask every SEC coach what they think about this.
What do you expect him to say when questioned about this topic?????

Anti tigers just want to criticize everything BK does. They don’t like him and never will.Miserable is as miserable does.

It's May. The Clemson game is 3 MONTHS away. He's at the SEC Spring Meetings. I think he can divert his attention away from "preparing for Clemson" for 10 seconds to answer a question about scheduling.
Of course, this is the Rant where some think a coach can't divert 5 seconds away from "game planning". But to make you feel better, I saw BK at a restaurant recently and heard the waitress say: "Good evening sir. What would you like to drink?" BK responded: "I don't have time for this right now lady. The Clemson game is in 4 months!"

I’m one of BK’s biggest supporters

9 SEC games is way more important IMO, mainly because conference scheduling is a clusterfrick right now.
How many SEC teams actually have big OOC rivalries though?
- Oklahoma / OK State
- Florida / FSU
- USCe / Clemson
- Georgia / Georgia Tech
- Mizzou and some shitty Big 12 team? I honestly don’t know.
Who am I missing? I don’t think UGA cares - they are one of the few teams that routinely schedules tough OOC games, and it’s not like Georgia Tech is giving them fits. Outside of that you’re talking about.. 3-4 of 16 schools?
The SEC could keep the mandated P5 OOC opponent (in addition to a B1G game) to keep everyone on a level playing field, but that doesn’t feel very likely since now you’re talking about 2 more mandatory P4 games than we have today.
I think the biggest issue that gets overlooked when you start eliminating cupcakes is scheduling conflicts. A lot easier to find a G5 or even FCS opponent to fill a date than a P4 opponent. Especially if you’re down to like 3 open dates.

If the SEC decides to play the Big10 then I could see both conferences pushing for a 24 or 32 team playoff. This scheduling will make more money with people in the seats, and a greater chance for the conference teams to make the playoffs even with the tougher schedule.

A friend of mine keeps telling me this. I think it may eventually happen after Clemson and Florida State join the SEC.

I like the idea, but Kelly can’t even prep properly to beat ACC teams.

Rutgers would be fun. Home of football.

Yeah it won't happen as long as Miami, Florida State, and Clemson are still in the ACC. Those are just too big of programs to get completely left out.

It is ALL dependent on what the playoff becomes. If the 16-team SEC is guaranteed 4 spots, the SEC will go to 9 conference games and whoever wants to can play a Big10 team also. LSU will do that.
UGA is the biggest scheduling problem. they HAVE to play GA Tech, Auburn, and UF.

There is nothing like an 11am kick at Rutgers. It’s truly special

I was there and saw that as well we must have been seated near each other. IIRC he didn't order anything either and mentioned something to the waitress about fasting to help improve focus for the upcoming season.
