was sitting in the upper grandstand behind home plate the night LSU played Rice.

We were sitting down the left field line. That was one of the greatest things I witnessed. That whole trip was great. We left New Orleans, drive to Kansas City, the Indians were playing the Royals and I randomly called a hotel and asked for Chad Ogea and they connected me to his room and he had tickets waiting for us but sadly the game was rained out. Went on to Omaha and we said we will go home if LSU gets eliminated and stayed for the whole thing. Had not made any hotel reservations and only had to switch hotels once thankfully

Fun fact, if you find those old Easton Reflex's -5 they are worth about $200.

Really?

I'm pretty sure I have this EXACT bat sitting in my parent's garage. I think I only used it for one year (before calling it quits in baseball)

And you had some juice in you as well, or saused.

That 1998 season was a tough one to end at cws. I remember either beating usc or Stanford in the prime weekend slot. And from I remember we lost one of the next games. We had to play usc, the weather changed and got cold and so did our bats. That was a heart breaking series.

LSU beat USC in game one, then Mississippi St in the winners bracket game. That left LSU in spot where one more win put them in the championship game for the third straight season. Then, as you said, the weather changed completely and it got cold and windy in Omaha, helping LSU lose two straight to the USC team they had already beaten. In fact, the LSU team that hit EIGHT HRs in the first game vs. USC did not hit a single one in the two subsequent losses. Both teams had to play in the same weather, but it COMPLETELY changed the game for LSU.

in 1996/97 you could get Andro and other majorly impactful PEDs at GNC

We had kids in high school that didn't play sports that were taking all this shite just to get swole. Then they'd get back acne (bacne) have 5 Natty Lights at a party and rage out.

Bottom line, the 90's fricking ruled.

I had forgotten that we played usc back to back. I remember losing to them in the elimination game. But I couldn’t recall who we lost to earlier in the bracket. I was thinking we had played Stanford somewhere in that bracket, but obviously that was maybe 96 or 97.
Those were some classic games especially before the ncaa scaled back the bats 1999. Mainly because of the 21-14 championship game score of usc vs sparky of Az state.

I believe Seth Etherton beat LSU, he ended up having a nice MLB career after leaving USC.

3 LSU CWS HR's that have always stood out to me were...

Lyle Mouton's that gets shown all the time.

Sweet swinging Brad Hawpe's vs USC (I think off Pryor).

Brandon Larson destroying that slider from Rice's Matt Anderson that still hasn't landed.

Even with 2021 balls and bats, I’d say Brandon would have hit 26-30 this season. He was so good.

He was good but come on man....those bats mattered tremendously. Also, you aren't even going to mention the rumor of PEDs? He played ball at a time in the majors when people were consistently using PEDs based on stories from people that actually played at the time.

What surprises me about Larsen is that he tore up AAA ball from 2001-2003. I've always wondered why his hitting fell off so much when he made it to the show. It is a little crazy. I realize he had some injuries around the time he was called up, but I wouldn't think that injury would make his hitting fall off the map like it did. After his release from the Reds his best season was in 2006 with AAA-New Orleans. He never made it back to the Show after 2004.

Those bats were ridiculously hot. He and many others hit some off the end of the bat that went out. Was fun to watch but not legit as far as where the game should always strive to be.

The -5 bats were probably okay for your average high school player but we’re a little much for someone good enough to play at LSU.
