Ethan Frey was the #1 rated catcher coming out of high school from the state so that’s an option

Idk how their defense is, but Jones and Frey both came in as catchers. I know Jones is probably 50/50 to leave, but I have a little hop he comes back with MLB looks at R/R corner infielders. Frey will be back with big bat potential. They add some options is my point. Preister may be our milazzo as the defensive guy or Jay could go to Hernandez or Frey when he thinks we need to score more.

I don't think Hernandez played much at catcher. His stats show 1 stolen base attempt on him all year and Magill was there main catcher. Hernandez was mostly 1B and some DH

I actually somewhat agree. I think Neal has all the talent and potential in the world. But he doesn't seem to have the personality or mindset Jay is looking for. I don't think Jay is upset to see him leave.

Hard to be a guaranteed starter at a place like LSU as a catcher when you just don’t catch every well.

Will miss his bat though.

Word is Priester is much improved since freshman year. I think Arrambide will make it to campus. Frey, Jones and Hernandez all could be a third option.

I wonder if Jay has been talking to some portal catchers on the down low. We will find out soon enough

Look did I have high hopes for the kid when he came in? Yes I did. But I don’t understand the obsession. The dude batted .143 in conference this year, .156 last year and honestly was lazy at times. He’s had his opportunities just like Kling.

Wonder if this could be a selling point for Bear to come back? Big RH 1B aren’t valuable in the eyes of scouts but if he can catch behind the plate along with his improved plate discipline he could make some serious money for next year.

It's removed. I didn't think much of it at the time. From time to time, I hear things like others. I don't like posting it bc some things turn out to be true and some might not play out. I heard 2 weeks ago that Neal was leaving but since it wasn't announced, I figured he changed his mind or I heard bad info. One of the other things I heard around the same time was that Yeskie wasn't liked by the pitchers. I have no idea if it's true or not so I hesitated to even post that. But we have several pitchers leaving and I have to wonder if that is true or not.

Great thread title, especially considering the content. Some of you people are just idiots.

I was not someone advocating for him to get more playing time, but his bat definitely improved towards the end of the season. He was 4th on the team in HRs despite only starting half of the games. We are probably losing all 3 of the guys ahead of him on the HR list (2 for sure).

I have no problem with anyone mentioning rumors that they are hearing. But if you are going to mention it, say what it is. I hate when people tease stuff on an anonymous message board.

I think this guy could fill a spot now that Neal is going. He's in the portal.

He might be able to play a position in the field, I just don’t think his body is built to withstand a whole season at Catcher. When he’s heathy his very good, just hasn’t been able to stay healthy.

Thank you! Neal and Kling were given a lot of opportunities. Neither ever did anything. The only thing LSU has lost in the portal is depth, which they are replacing. I would have like Cam Johnson to stay. Neal's bat was nothing this year, and he looked lazy behind the plate a lot of times. I think Johnson challenged guys to compete.

At people acting like we lost Micah Gibbs. Brady has good pop, but doesn’t hit for average and a has a sub par glove. Good luck to him

would like to see what he could do with a full year as the starter, and healthy.

Will we??? while I would have hoped for all of our guys to stay, it is impossible to expect it. CJJ gave him every opportunity to show his potential. It just didn't come through. As far as his bat is concerned, he is a career .235ish average batter. People here wanted to crucify Paxton Kling for being a career. 250 hitter. Coupled with the number of passed balls, are we losing a top tier guy who cannot be replaced? I wish him luck and thank you for your time at LSU. Next..........

It doesn’t surprise me. I saw him after the SEC Tournament walking to the bus. Something seemed off with him compared to everyone else. I even mentioned to my son that he may not be around next year. There was a vibe there for sure.

don't have an issue with players leaving and you kinda expect it. But it feels like we will have more turnover than we did after the natty last year

As it should. No need in blowing it up when you’re winning. After the season LSU just had its clear they need new faces.
