Actually he’s won a lot. In 5 years at LSU he took a crap program and turned it into a winner, including an SEC title in year 2 and 4 straight NCAA tournament teams (I’m counting the Covid year). Then he turns McNeese into a powerhouse in year 1, and wins an NCAA tournament game in year 2. Takes over at NCSU, in a conference with the likes of Duke and NC in the same state, and turns them into a tournament-worthy team. So in 6 years as a P5 coach he’s had 2 first year turnarounds and 4 NCAA tournament teams. But you know this.
Having grown up in the 80s-90s “glory” years I love the sport and remember how great it was when LSU basketball is competitive. It was a lot of fun. Outside of a couple standout seasons under Brady and one under Johnson, Wade’s tenure brought back the consistently competitive LSU basketball program we all know it can be.
For me LSU men’s basketball is a unique piece in the LSU sports landscape. I actually don’t expect a NC. Could it happen? Maybe. But I expect LSU to be able to be competitive, for it to be fun, and it to reflect positively on the “brand”. Because I’ve seen it capable of doing that. Who doesn’t love the anticipation of Selection Sunday when LSU’s in the hunt?
I know there are apparently tons of people who jump in basketball threads just to say that they don’t give a shite about hoops, give the money to baseball. To me though having a successful basketball program benefits all programs at LSU by improving the image of the brand (that word again). So you have a coach who has proven he can win at LSU. It’s nearly a sure thing he will again. I’m fine with NCAA tournament appearances and the occasional run to a Sweet 16 or an Elite 8. It’s fun. And it’s good for LSU.

I'm not angry at all. I'm not the one that has her little panties in a wad because the only basketball coach to win here consistently is returning to replace its all time worst coach.

I seriously thought, it's been so quiet...we're keeping McMahon......Wade...only at NCSU for year...he's not leaving to come back...this thread gives the hope....

Then that's an indictment on the state of the LSU program when Will Wade has the highest winning percentage of any coach in more than 100 years. His second LSU team won the SEC regular-season championship, only the fourth regular-season title 1990-91.
Sometimes you have to walk before you can run. He took a program that went 12-19 the season before, and just three seasons above .500 in ACC play and took it to the NCAA tournament.
