Both have won a NC. What did Bo win?
WTF?

Who else was hiring him?
You have no idea what kind of offers he has had. Maybe LSU is the one he said yes to.

Why not bring in an up-and-comer?
Maybe Orgeron wants stability at the spot and doesn't want someone who will jump ship in a couple years.

Pelini will be fine, I know one thing, those defensive players will play hard.
Since his Nebraska buyout is done, this is his chance to get back to big time football and possibly rehab his image and use LSU success to possibly get another Power 5 head coaching position.
I agree, $2 million seems high. Maybe starting him at 1.5 to 1.75 with chance to earn incentives with performance.
Without him and Crowton, I doubt LSU wins 07 title.

I seriously must be misremembering his defenses. I could have/would have sworn Pelini liked to run 4 man front with LB’s in zone coverage trying on the front to get pressure.
I have very much grown to like the multiplicity of a 3 man front and hope Pelini runs an attacking style of defense. I will defer to the coaching staff as what O put together last year was great, but I really hope we do not revolve into a reactive defense reliant upon the front to get pressure.

I don't love the hire, but it's not like he was sitting at home playing chess for the last 13 years.

We will be attacking with a 4 man front. And we have the hosses in the trenches now to do it.

How about say that first next time instead of embarrassing yourself.

quote:How many great up-and-comer DCs are out there? It's not a total left field hire. The guy coached here previously, LSU was very successful on defense when he was here before and the players apparently really liked him.

But do we? The guys on our line seem to be MUCH more suited in a 3-4 scheme. Shelvin and Ika are not 4-3 attacking tackles as much as they are 3-4 nose guards. Hell, both had to lose serious weight to get down to 3-4 size.

Because up until this past season he was still getting paid like $1.5 million a year from Nebraska. He wasn't looking to go anywhere.
Buyout ended early last year. He was making less than 300k.
I'm fine with the hire, but the optics of the $ arent very good. Offer him 1M and offer incentives after year 1.

Shea sums it up nicely...
Bo Pelini was LSU's DC from 2005-07.
Here's how his defenses ranked in the NCAA those three years in yards per game allowed.
2005: No. 3 (266.8)
2006: No. 3 (242.8)
2007: No. 3 (288.8)
The Tigers were No. 3, No. 4 and No. 17 in points allowed.
Average: 12.6, 14.2 + 19.9.
