It could help the defense out so much being a ball control offense you’re spot on

He's not a miracle worker. Our DT room is sub-par to be kind and if you watch the videos coming out of practice the DBs aren't even competitive in coverage.

ie ... So don't be shocked if USC scores 49 points in the opener. But we can just hope to score 50 points and win the game.

He also shut down Georgia's offense.

So wtf was going on the last 2 years? How has this side of the ball gotten so piss poor while Kelly has been here?

Gotta be more than “Coach O left us fricked” and “Matt House sucks”

It’s possible. I’d say top 60 is most likely. Having a top 10 offense plus top 60 defense very well could put us in the playoff.

LSU should never have a defense that bad. It's wild how bad the defense got in a few years. It used to be our staple now it's our hindrance it's so weird

His initial hires on defense were dog shite, both from a coaching and recruiting perspective, and that is entirely on him.

I mean it basically boils down to those two things. You have less talent than you normally do and you have a DC who doesn't connect well with his players/has a complicated scheme.

Effort and coaching are the two components to cover up a lack of talent. There was absolutely no effort by most of that defense last year. You could see guys quitting during the game. Add on a complicated scheme that one, they clearly couldn't fully understand and two, didn't match the players strengths and you have that abomination of last year.

Baker even mentioned it in an interview, his job is to learn what his players can and can't do and build a scheme that fits around that. If certain guys are in that have different strengths than the previous guys, his scheme needs to change to match that.

I'm excited to see the progression of this defense. Yeah, there are still some holes talent wise and yeah, some guys are gonna make mistakes... but I think we are going to see players understanding their job, playing faster because of it, and a huge increase in effort. That is going to create big plays, turnovers, stops, etc... and that is going to bring some confidence back to this side of the ball.

People forget that he led Missouri to a top 20 defense with less talent than even the current personnel we have currently in defense.
Who did he have coaching the secondary @ Missouri?

Last seasons Defense and the year before, were not of the players fault.
If you look at some of the first Pro games being played. Micah Baskerville, just had an Int, a returned for a TD. Ovie Oghoufo is another that had a good game the other day. Led his team in tackles. We'll see how the rest of the former players do.

At least he is telling the truth.

This is going to be a learning year on defense.
