Not true… They had a first round DT, Second round Cb, Third round Lb , 5th round cb Abrams-Draine who was first team all-Sec 2nd team All-American , and a fifth round safety Jaylon Carlies who racked up 220 career tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, 9 ints and 3 forced fumbles.. The idea that Mizzou had no talent is ridiculous..

And most of this guys started their careers as 3 and lower 4 star recruits. They were developed into great players who were drafted highly.

Whatever you want to say about the defensive rosters last year and this year, do you really believe what talent we had/have was maximized? At least there is now reason to believe we will see players put in better position to succeed and developed to be the best they can be.

So wtf was going on the last 2 years? How has this side of the ball gotten so piss poor while Kelly has been here?

Gotta be more than “Coach O left us fricked” and “Matt House sucks”
Nope, that was basically the issue

To put it more clearly, Matt House probably wouldn't suck if you gave him 4 years, AND didn't use the portal that much. You'd have growing pains from young guys going into a complex scheme, then as they stayed and progressed, things would get better and better. The concept would to eventually always have a ton of experienced upperclassmen running an NFL-like defense that could confuse lots of high-powered offenses.

The problem is, we didn't have anyone worth a shite on the roster, so we got basically the entire secondary through the portal. Then, they all left, and we again got a ton of guys through the portal.

You had All-Conference guys (Oregon State linebacker, Syracuse corner etc) who came in, were confused and couldn't play fast and loose, and looked like shite. Like rookies on an NFL squad. Not because of talent, but because they were lost and in over their heads.

We need a scheme where the coach takes the talent on hand and says "do your thing", and then makes it more complex as they grow into it.

Still early but can't say I am all that surprised that we are struggling with consistency after the defense we had last year was terribly inconsistent.

That's what Curley used to say.

People forget that he led Missouri to a top 20 defense with less talent than even the current personnel we have currently in defense. Missouri had/has no defensive player with the talent of Perkins, Womack, or even Spears.

They had better talent at DB than we do. We are going to be hurting on the backend.

In hindsight I bet BK would have kept Corey Raymond if he could do it again. When he left some serious talent instantly transferred out and recruits went elsewhere.
