I think people are confusing "great football player" with "freak athlete"
To me a freak athlete is someone with off the chart measurables relative to size, weight, etc
Michael Clayton (in college) and Jerry Rice were great at football, but not "freak athletes". This goes for Dorsey too.

Freak = Vernon Davis/AJ Hawk/Mario Williams/Julius Peppers (not saying these aren't great players, just saying they are freaks of nature)
Great players = Jerry Rice/Emmitt Smith/Michael Crabtree(college)
Our biggest freak is Cannon, Casanova, or Peterson. I think that list should be it. Maybe Brooks, but I am not sure about that.

T.K Fleming would have been the shite.

Im sure he has been mentioned, but I'll bring him up again.
The biggest bone crushing hits that I saw delivered at LSU were from LaRon Landry.
This guy is beastly. His redskin teammates even call him "Beast".

Brooks was an outstanding player - best LSU LB in my memory - but I don't recall his measurables being off the chart.

I know personally the freak in the Cannons.

The Shaquille O'Neal show was like a traveling circus, with him as the head freak. They never did well in the tournament (and I will despise Oliver Miller forever) but LSU basketball will never be that electric ever again. I suppose you could say that the Maravich era was greater in terms of significance, but it was the modern day media zoo that made the O'Neal.
Sorry I bumped the old-ish thread, but I had toleave town and my post was still up, unposted.

Who is that #88? Maybe Willie Williams? (Just a guess)
Hey, another freak athlete, albeit from a down era, was Shawn King. He transferred to Northeast and ended up playing for the Skins, but damn, what an athlete.

First person that comes to mind is Cecil Collins. He was one of the most incredible running backs I have ever seen. I shudder to think of what he would have done if his head would have been screwed on straight.
Dude was way freak!

I doubt many remember Shawn King, who started at LB in 1990 and 1991, but he was a 6'10" high jumper at 6' 3" 220 lbs in high school. Too bad he kicked Shaq's arse and was kicked off the team.

I did HS games on the radio between '92 and '95. Probably the most glaringly complimentary comment of a player's ability I ever got was from Tommy Casanova, who swore in no uncertain terms that CC was the best tailback he'd ever seen.
But O'Neal was still way more of a "freak," at least, in the sense that I interpret the word. No one had every seen a 7'2" 335 lb. player who could run the fast break and dunk from the foul line.
I'm not even sure I ever cared if we won or not, just that O'Neal would do something incredible. Well, okay. Okay. Of course I cared, but the fact that they never did makes him no less of the greatest spectacle in LSU sports history.
