He has to be near the top. Would his skills translate to the present? Doubt it but for his time he was a freak.

Billy Cannon. Todd Kinchen. Patrick Peterson. Chris Jackson. Pete Maravich. Kevin Faulk. Chad Jones. The list could go on. There were many freakishly talented Tigers.

If, by the word "freak", you mean an athlete who possesses un-natural or un-common physical attritbutes or skills - then it's hard to argue against Jamarcus Russell.

He was 6'6" 260 pounds and could throw a ball on a 30 foot line. You can add Trindon to that list, too, simply becuase not more than 10 guys (in the world) could run that fast.

RJF was a freak.

Todd Kinchen was a great athlete as well. I played against him in BBall and that dude is a BEAST. Jumped outta the gym and came down like 30 seconds later to dunk on our whole team.....8 times,
with authority. Plus his FBall highlights speak for themselves.

One measuring stick of athletic freakness is whether or not a player could still be effective on the field decades after his playing days are over. Billy Cannon is one who could just as easily play today as he did in the 50's.

Johnny Robinson and Tommy Casonova are two former Tigers in that mode as well. Too early to consider recent players.

Billy Cannon...interesting note that B.C. Jr. played at ATM as a safety / Linebacker and also returned kicks. He was damn good at it.

Top end speed isn't the only characteristic of an athlete. Guys like Jerry Rice and Terrell Owens are freak athletes with less than stellar top end speed.

we have produced other WRs who are more athletic than clayton, though. like bowe

the only answer with objective data to back it up is peterson

*ETA: cannon and casanova are highly regarded but it's hard to really compare. they could be the "chad jones" of their era (very overrated athlete but still a good player)
