I'm trying not to sound too dumb or naive with my take on this, and as weird as it sounds, I think its his PR team pushing the "college was a waste of time" narrative. It's in the past so it's not going to make him look like a bad teammate, instead it distances himself from the talk about why his team flopped in college. We all know how close he was/is to Hornsby and Malone, and helped recruit Drake Davis.

NBA style with pro coaching was always a better fit. He'll hopefully have a nice productive long career but I agree with supa-more pippen than jordan. If he was more the latter you'd have seen it reflected in the others around him.

Entitled piece of shite!!! He better hope he stays healthy because he sounds like the type that will run through the money as soon as he makes it and won't be qualified for anything other than flipping burgers when basketball is done with him

While i’m not a fan of Simmons’ tenure at LSU, i actually agree with his take on the college experience— i dont really feel like i ‘learned’ much of anything either in my 4.5 yrs of school... Dont get me wrong, i absolutely *enjoyed* my time in college, and I wouldn’t trade most of my time at LSU for a 4.0 GPA— but I wouldn’t say i learned much that is of practical use today... I definitely learned a lot about adulting when i got an off-campus apartment with some buddies, and had to figure out how to balance bills/going to class/working a job (hint— i was a horrible balancer) and i learned a ton *socially*, since i was a little sheltered before college, didnt have much experience with women, etc.. But I really feel like unless youre in an ultra-specialized major, you can learn pretty much everything you need to know by self-educating, reading, traveling, etc... I can say though that i’m happy i got the piece of paper at the end, it has helped immensely with my career.

If he didn't learn anything after a year as a student athlete at a major university, it's not because the education wasn't provided, it's because he didn't want or try to learn. At the end of each day in a person's life, they should realize how ignorant they were the day before. If a person isn't learning something each day, it's because they don't want to learn. His assessment isn't a reflection of LSU, it's a reflection of him.

I think he could have learned much more under a quality coach like Will Wade than the screw up Johnny Jones. Jones was a terrible coach and so it was really a waste of the kids time and talent, I understand his frustration, but he does also come off as some what of a dick. Oh well, he's in the NBA now and LSU has rebounded nicely under Will Wade, it's all water under the bridge as they say.

Why is this guy even relevant to LSU sports. He should not have played college ball.

Yes, they provide an education, but it's also a big business as Simmons said and all former athletes know and understand by now. They throw this get a great education for free crap at you, but in the mean time you are doing all this stuff they want you to do like photo ops and appearances wherever they want you to go, meeting the media regularly and a lot other stuff because they are making a shite load of money off of you. Yet, they want to suspend you or threaten to expel you if a agent buys you a nice pair of shoes or something. Lmao

It’s ok because I won’t be watching much of him in the NBA - can’t see him or his team hitting post season any time soon

Actually, with his attitude he V wouldn't have lasted under Will Wade. He and any other credible coach would have booted his arse as he was a cancer to the rest of the team. He never was a team player.

As I posted yesterday in the SECR thread about this:

Learning involves effort on the part of the person being taught. His comments say more about him that they do about LSU

This is not an indictment of LSU, but the hypocritical system that requires kids to spend time in their system before going pro. People in these programs make millions, while requiring kidz who dont even want the education, to spend time in there.

It's not LSU's fault, but yeah, the kind wanted to go to the NBA and if the NBA didn't have a rule against it, some team definitely would have taken him.

The article in the Business Report makes it sound like he's bitter toward LSU, but it's really the NCAA and system in general. He didn't have to go to school, could have played professionally overseas for a year, but he chose a year of college so that he could get more exposure. A guy with that talent doesn't belong in college, and I do think the system ought to be changed so that the one and dones aren't in college either

Thank you
