re: Be honest with yourself: Can you see Coach O leading LSU to the playoffs?

I cannot, and thats tough.
I cant even see a west title, much less a NC.
63-10 should be terribly depressing to any LSU fan. Add in Florida and A&M defeats and we are headed in the wrong direction to be talking NC.

You’re inability or another’s ability is completely irrelevant to the issue.

How many folks believed that Saban had "it" after his second year?
If one couldn't listen to Saban and realize what he was capable of building, they might have had shite in their ears.

Do u realize how close he came this year? He may fail miserably going forward but give the man a break and let him give you some facts to work with....
He's given us facts. I don't understand how the O supporters give him an entirely blank slate with each year. It's odd.

No I do not, but I would love to see him succeed. I like him, but I havent seen enough to have playoff confidence in him. And the "11-1 loss to BAMA = playoffs" crowd is delusional. I think if the right things happened it could be true. Assuming we dont play into SECCG due to a BAMA loss, it would be a stretch for us to get in. We arent BAMA and the playoff committee will not view us as equal.

What I'm referring to are the convenient missed calls that allowed aTm back in the game and then the ones in OT to win. Those calls wouldn't happen to Bama, Auburn, or UF. NEVER. In the past, those calls wouldn't happen to LSU either when we played the likes of Ole Miss, Arky, aTm, etc.
Immediately after the game, ESPN was mocking LSU for the Gatorade bath, compared that to the Bluegrass Miracle years back, then they started with the "Up and coming Jimbo vs Saban" narrative. Jimbo's team gave Bama a fight. O's team put up another goose egg at home....
LSU dropped another notch and it was plain as day to see.
Pay attention to the product/narrative the entertainment industry that owns the sport is pushing. Also, did you know aTm is the most valuable football program according to Forbes?
More valuable program, larger media market, known commodity as Head Coach....
LSU just dropped.
Downvote away, Rant! Reality sucks!

You mean after he won the SEC and blew out Illinois in the Sugar Bowl?
quote:
Heck there were many who didn't believe Saban had "it" when he left LSU. Their proof was the Bowl loss to Iowa.
These people who you just made up sound like idiots.

You've got an inflated idea of how much talent is on this team and ready to play.
Who is more talented than LSU other than Georgia and Alabama?
The recruiting rankings and offer lists say otherwise. LSU recruits great players every year

But it’s not a blank slate. It’s his 2nd year as head coach. We have a 2 year slate. We are collecting data.
Better than O haters who toss any slate out the window.

Do you mean the same second year in which he took us to our first ever SECCG, upset #2 Tennessee, and gave us our first conference title and Sugar Bowl appearance since the 80’s?
Posted on 11/27/18 at 3:50 pm to CBandits82
He got pretty close this year despite a tough schedule and a struggling offense, so yes.

I think your perspective is the perspective of a large percentage of our fanbase, and it’s why you cannot be objective when judging him.
You just can’t “see” him doing well, so there’s this confirmation bias about what is actually happening. He’s a shrimp boat captain, so there’s no way he can be a good coach. I had the same impression of Dabo, who I thought was an Alabama yokel who would never make it. Boy, was I wrong.
To many fans, this season was a failure. To others, he did a good job with what he had and they don’t knock him for the A&M game.
Somehow we as fans have to find a way to view things objectively, because a revolving door of coaches, OC’s, etc is no path to success. If it were Tennessee would be a playoff contender every year.
Not at all, but we are 2.5 years into his tenure and the offense is archaic.
Nothing is schemed to a strength, we are almost 3 years in here and I have not seen any kind of strategic offensive attack that he said would happen.
How can I trust he hits the next OC hire out of the park, if he even has the balls to hire another OC in the first place.

It really is baffling. All last year we got to hear about "well Saban lost to UAB and ULM and he turned out fine after those first years." Fast forward to the end of this year where we are no closer to our supposed championship aspirations, and they're still making Saban comparisons Sabans' year 2 at LSU and Bama both blow what 0 did this year out of the water. But as usual, we still need to wait and see.. and hope and pray.
We comin'... maybe.

If he gets the right guy at OC, Yes he can lead us to the playoffs.
If he is ok with the status quo on offense, he will be looking for a job in 3 years.

I'm not an O supporter nor a O condemner until I see him fail. No need to speculate after a surprisingly good year. It's all bs...
